Game Plan for Sunday @UVA
Ok, here's the deal.... UVA's halfcourt sets are tough to defend because they're very methodical. They set a ton of screens, but most importantly, they back door pass the Hell out of their opponents. I think we should play a sagging 2-3 zone against them. What are your thoughts? If we do this, it will prevent all back door layups attempted on us, if we are focused. They shot the ball terribly against the 16 seed. They were on fire against Duke, so if they drop two or three 3's on us in a row, we can resort back to man-to-man.

I loved our perimeter defense last night. GTG!!

I'm OK as long as we score 1 point more than Virginia. That's the game plan for me.

Memphis needs to control the tempo from the start and stay in the lead.

That means we need to speed up the pace through presses and in your face defense to disrupt those style of play - Two things we haven't done too well on a consistent basis this season.

I bet our guys bring their best though on Sunday. Should be a fun game.

RE: Game Plan for Sunday @UVA
It is almost impossible to speed the game up on some opponents. Virginia is one of those teams. If the team comes in with the intentions of only playing fast we will lose. We have to be prepared to be balanced. We will have opportunities to get out in transition and we have to capitalize on those. However, the majority of our offense will come in half court sets. We have to be prepared to execute in the half court. I think GW was a good warmup for us and I thought the team did a great job of executing in the half court last night.

I say we find their best player and have Geron head butt him immediately after tip-off.

I'd start by getting these game tapes and looking them over.

Game Plan for Sunday @UVA
A little penetration to draw up the d and a lob to a back door cutter is one major way to attack a 2-3. Not saying you can't use a 2-3, just saying

Game Plan for Sunday @UVA
I guess if you're committed to sagging it and giving up mid-range and long shots in order to keep the ball on the perimeter, that can disrupt an offense, BUT, at risk of giving up open shots

Don't turn the ball over, and don't rush your own shots. We need to be very efficient with the ball.

On D, play hard and physical d from the perimeter in. If we get overextended trying to force TOs and pace of play, they'll take advantage of that. I'd say they're counting on this strategy. I think we pack it in ourselves and play strong man to man. Maybe try to beat them at their own game. And when we get a lead, turn up the pressure.

agree. if we press it will just lead to layups for uva. They're too fundamental for our halfhearted press

Random Question

In a neutral site game like the ones in the NCAA who determines what bench each team sits on, or "side"?
