going public, hire more people, then fire more people, going public, hire more people, then fire more people, etc.

I remember when Kmart filed for BK. Worthless stock traded somewhere between 5 and 8 cents for months. One of my co-workers came in one morning bragging that she had bought 20,000 shares. This will be fun to watch.

But that was one HUGE win for SVM. That albatross has been swinging around the SVM neck for many years.

Not true.
In my job I spoke recently to someone hired to help fix the internal problems. They said it was hopeless and that until the culture changed, and there was no impetus to do that, the company would never be viable.

I agree. That's why I finally left servicemaster a couple of years ago.
I have several friends who did exactly the same. One went to ALSAC and is constantly amazed at the difference between the two companies. She said it's like night & day.

Yep. I actually knew the one of the previous heads of HR and they were depressed at how bad things actually were. Invest at your own risk.

Yep. I started out at servicemaster right out of college so I didn't know any different. I was astounded at the culture where I landed. There is actually an identity here and the employees are incredibly loyal. They honor and acknowledge long-time employees, whereas at service master they did everything they could to boot them out, or outsource them, and bring in fresh cheaper blood. The brands all bickered amongst each other and it was an "us vs. them" culture. Each brand kind of had it's culture, but the "one company family of brands" was non-existent. And right now it truly is a CYA atmosphere where nobody trusts anybody they just try to put their heads down and survive. The recruiter I worked with here said that when he started out ServiceMaster was where everybody wanted to be, but now they are fleeing from there like **** roaches. It's really a shame. All the old-timers there talked about the good 'ole days in the 80s and 90s and how great of company culture it used to be. E.L. Bruce would be rolling in his grave if he saw what is going on there.
I communicate regularly with several former co-workers at Terminix and TruGreen. The disastrous culture has only amplified many times over since I left.

That's EXACTLY the type of mindset there was in the company I went to back in 2012 (I had worked for a small family-owned company for 20 years prior)....bickering, back-stabbing, and management that only cared about the bottom line & seeing how much they could pile on you before you broke. 15 people in my small department either quit or were fired within a 3 month timeframe. It was nothing short of poisonous.
When I started throwing up before heading to work each morning & crying at my laptop on Saturday mornings, I knew it was time to get out. I left there about a year ago, even taking a pay cut for my new job, and I haven't been this happy at work in a decade.

I'll consider it, but I prefer my privacy.
I understand. In my daily business I seek out companies with that culture and they are quite rare these days. No worries either way.
