Jim Calhoun has interest in the BC opening
I know that there's a general BC HC vacancy thread, but Calhoun going to BC is like Boeheim packing up an going to Georgetown or Coach K putting on powder blue. This deserves it's own thread. I'm stunned.

While I am sure he misses coaching didn't he have a lot of health problems that forced him to retire?

RE: Jim Calhoun has interest in the BC opening
BC is plain stupid if it summarily dismisses the interest of a Hall of Fame coach.

That doesn't mean they should hire him. He doesn't have much longevity, but he would bring instant credibility and notoriety to a position that usually is hopelessly buried in the Boston news media. He's a household name in that region. Plus it takes some spotlight off their primary competitor in New England. If they don't bring him in, they better hire some big splash.

I would hire him in a heartbeat with a couple of provisions

1. This is a one-term, 4-5 year deal.
2. Tell me who and how you are going to groom your replacement.

I would like the hire, it would definitely get BC on the map and they would become an ESPN favorite they seem to love some Calhoun. Just imagine basketball media days though. With 4 or 5 hall of famers.... wow.

Urban Meyer wasn't 71 years old. So that is not apples to apples.

RE: Jim Calhoun has interest in the BC opening
It would be a great hire in my opinion.
BC is at the bottom of the ACC and needs help to get out of the cellar.
If a hall of fame coach says that he's interested then I would say, here's the contract.
He's a great coach and Boston College should jump at the chance to hire him.
If BC does hire him, it is interesting how the ACC is slowly evolving into the "New Big East". The former Big East coaches in the ACC would be:
Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Jamie Dixon (Pittsburgh), Mike Brey (Notre Dame), Rick Pittino (Louisville),
Buzz Williams (VT) and possibly Jim Calhoun.

But in the real world, egos matter. I can't picture BC taking what might be perceived by the Eagles as a UConn retread, even though it might be a great interim hire.

Calhoun has very real health issues and age is/was a factor.

I think UCONN receives an invite from the ACC before Calhoun EVER accepts this job. Just one UCONN fan's opinion.

"But the longer Marquette waits to replace Williams, the harder it will be to attract a top candidate. At the moment, Marquette, Wake Forest and Boston College are the only jobs of consequence that are available.

Marquette's main competition is Wake Forest because it offers the chance to coach in the Atlantic Coast Conference."

If I'm BC, shouldn't I be insulted by that statement?

Interesting, although I know BC wants Amaker. Here is a younger guy that can recruit, but I'm not sure the ACC is the best place for a new coach to cut his teeth.

Calhoun grooming McCarty on the other hand...

Sounds like it's all but official that BC's new coach is Ohio U's Jim Christian.

You won't find a nicer guy. I hope he's successful. He's one that's easy to cheer for.
