Interesting play in stat
The two play in games in which there were no major conference teams. Both teams were 16 seeds and had to play 1 seed in round of 64. The two games which included major conference teams the seeds were 11 and they get to play a 6 seed.

I believe this will always be the case with the 68 team format. The 11 seed play-in games are at-large teams, which are pretty much always going to be from big conferences. The 16 seed play-in games are automatic qualifiers, so they are going to put the winners of the crappiest conferences in those spots.

The fact that 12 seeds are 14-13 in against 5 seeds recently is an indicator of some kind of seeding inefficiency.

Yep. They are teams in which could have already beaten teams better than 5 seeds in the regular season, but had something about their record which pushed them to the bubble. (Think SMU, who could have upset any of the 5 seeds.) It's why getting a 5/6 seed can be the kiss of death.
