I bet nobody actually gives 2 schits about that restriction.

Yes.

Air district officials have issued a ban on fireplace use in seven California counties.

The Air Quality Management District says burning wood, pellets and manufactured fire logs in residential fireplaces, stoves and fire pits is prohibited until midnight Monday.

The counties included are San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Madera, Fresno, Kings and Tulare. Portions of Kern County are also included.

Officials say the ban results from deteriorating air quality across the Central Valley.

Violations can result in fines.

Dumb. Can't take down the biggest polluters as they pay your paychecks so you let them 'self regulate' and then go after the poor. SMH.

lmfao....yeah the wood stove nazis are going to infiltrate.....your comment is the first thing I thought when I saw the thread title....

I know there isn't going to be anybody checking up on woodstoves, but it's just beyond stupid that the EPA is concerning themselves with woodstoves and pollution.

I shouldn't have to deal with any red tape if I decide I want to put a woodstove in my shop or in a barn. It's just another needless govt intrusion into people's lives.

it really is beyond stupid.....

I despise what our form of gov't has become for many reasons....this is one I never thought would rear the ugly head 03-wink

Fire prevention is the only excuse for limitations, and should only apply to outdoor open fires during certain times of day, on a locality basis.

Other versions are not applicable bc fire is required for survival by some.

Quote:What are the health effects of wood smoke pollution?

Smoke resulting from improperly burned wood contains many chemical substances that are considered harmful such as hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), fine particle pollution (ash), and volatile organic compounds (VOC).

•HAPs are an important component of wood smoke. A group of hazardous air pollutants known as polycyclic organic matter includes benzo(a)pyrene, which may cause cancer.
•Particle pollution in smoke can damage lung tissue and lead to serious respiratory problems when breathed in high concentrations. In low concentrations, particle pollution in wood smoke can harm the health of children, the elderly, and those with existing respiratory diseases. EPA has developed an extensive Web site related to particle pollution.

That's easy to fix; Obama can use his pen or phone to ban forest fires and volcanoes.

Seriously, do you get the feeling that everything we need to live on/with has been found to be what's killing us? Sometimes I just can't stand it.

Angry White Male much?

If you stick your head in your banned woodstove... yes, you may get cancer from it. A head the size of yours won't even fit into a woodstove Rimshot

If your head wasn't so much bigger than your brain, you'd realize the smoke goes out of the chimney into the air 20 feet above your house (and smoke rises). No lung cancer...

Isn't a wood stove one of the most basic of "green" energy sources you could get.
To heck with the pollution. If it's green it must be good.

You think a government agency should concern themselves with the woodstoves in private homes instead of focusing on industry that generates billions of times more pollution? And since when is smoke from burning wood considered pollution? That's my point. The EPA is focusing on so-called pollution from woodstoves that won't equal the daily pollution output of industry. That's a waste of resources and unnecessary regulation.

200, there has been restriction on wood stove emissions for years. They just increased them and it only applies to new stove manufactures.

And yes, I want the government regulating private industry when it comes to air and water quality. You may not want your tax dollars going there, but personally, I don't want to see this again:
(Yes, I know, this isn't caused directly from wood burning stoves.)

This is a non story.
