NIT
#8 seed FGCU falls to #1 seed Florida State, 58-53 . . . Close!

#8 seed High Point falls to #1 seed Minnesota, 88-81 . . . Close!

#7 seed Davidson falls to #2 seed Missouri, 85-77 . . . Close!

#5 seed Belmont beats #4 seed Green Bay, 80-65 . . . No surprise.

#8 seed Robert Morris beats #1 seed St. Johns, 89-78 . . . What???? Isn't this the same team that beat Kentucky last year?

RE: NIT
Belmont will play Robert Morris next. Belmont is clearly capable of making it to Madison Square Garden.

RE: NIT
Those close losses were all away at the big school ..gulf coast was bringing the ball up to try to tie as the game ended and fsu players mugged a couple of them and took the ball.

RE: NIT
Perfect example of good mid-majors that would never get an at-large in the NCAA's and are hungry to win in the post-season...versus...dead average major conference teams that look down their noses at having to play in the NIT.

Always lots of good upsets.

As for Robert Morris...besides upsets of St. John's this year and Kentucky last year in the NIT, they also took 2 seed Villanova to OT in the 2010 NCAA's before falling 73-70. Those Colonials know how to bring it in the post-season.

Belmont 82, Robert Morris 71

Now Belmont will either travel TO Clemson, or HOST Illinois, depending on tomorrow's game. Host Illinois??? The Big10's Fighting Illini AT Belmont????? I'm trying to get my head around this one . . .

Belmont is a better team than both of those teams, and they are coached well enough to win on the road or at home.

I would love to see Belmont get Illinois here. It's not that far from Champaign/Urbana to Nashville, so they'd bring fans, especially Illini fans in the southern areas of Illinois.
Sadly Belmont was only at about half capacity, but I did hear the ones who showed up were raucous and made it fun. Good luck to them, always good for in state schools with in state kids to win.

They'll be at Clemson. The Tigers won today.

Belmont lost 73-68. If anyone watched it on ESPN, you'd agree it was a very exciting game . . . several lead changes. Neither team exactly ran away from the other.
