Most big time programs have this mentality (I remember our fans complaining when we played in the CBI when we were rebuilding). I gotta say I don't understand it. Why would you pass up practice time and game experience for your team? You already missed the NCAA's and NIT. Choosing not to play isn't some redeeming quality nor is it going to erase the bad season you had.

I fail to see how passing up playing competitive games is good for your team. Getting returning players more experience can only be a good thing and even seniors have earned the right to compete with their teammates in a tournament environment. Stupid move.

I'd hope UC would skip it if we were back in that position. Sometimes its ok to wrap up a bad year. Remember how awesome it was playing Bradley after the 07' season? Said noone ever.

What are the practice rules for basketball after the season? In football , playing in any bowl game is helpful because it gives the team, especially underclassmen, the opportunity for more practice. In this case, its not like there are 3 weeks between the last game and the start of these (NIT, CBI, etc) tournaments, so "extra" practice isn't a huge amount. But, it does give the team additional opportunities to "compete", depending on their mindset. I would rather be playing in one of these tournaments than not, but the comparison between playing in the CBI and a lower level bowl game is lemons to limes...similar but definitely different.

I think the CBI makes the host team pay $50,000 in guaranteed revenue.

That probably wouldn't matter in IN but it could change the thought process of some lesser schools that don't draw as well.
