Verizon was named as the title sponsor for the Verizon Indy Car Series this past week. Signing a five year deal to replace IZOD. The Verizon Indy Car Series gets it's season underway on March 30th at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg. Kurt Busch announced plans to do the Memorial Day double. Signing to driver an Andretti Autosport car at Indy before returning to his regular Cup ride for Charlotte.
Olivebranch's Ricky Stenhouse Jr had a strong run this past weekend finishing second at Bristol behind teammate Carl Edwards. Great weekend for Fords as Rousch took the top two spots with Richard Petty Motorsports finishing 3rd and 5th. Was a so so run for Lil Ricky's girl friend as she ran over a parked car exiting her pit stall.
The Cup series return to action this weekend in Fontana, California before returning to Martinsville, Va. to round out the month.
This weekend saw the second race of the TUDOR Sports Car Championship. With the DP taking a second straight win against the LMP2 cars. With Ganassi winning the 62nd running of the 12 Hours of Sebring. The rce was marred by even more IMSA officiating f ups. The GTD leading #22 was penalized for rough driving based on video from it's in car camera. Interesting thing is the #22 wasn't carrying an in car camera. IMSA was looking at the in car camera from the GTLM winning #912. Not only was the #22 penalized costing him a class win. The #912 got away "scott" free without a penalty which allowed him to take the win in the GTLM class. Later IMSA president Scott Elkin apologized for the mistake. This was on top of the mistake the official made at the 24 hours of Daytona when they penalized the GTD class winner for avoidable contact on the final lap. Even though video showed there was no contact at all. This was later corrected and some time later the real winning car received their Rolex watches they should have gotten on stage at Daytona. .
Rough month in motorsports with the passing of William Clay Ford and Gary Bettenhausen.
