The truth about SMU
I was really surprised that SMU got snubbed. I also think its ridiculous that NC State got in the field. However, on closer look, SMU has less to complain about than they think, and Ill admit I was a little blinded to.
1) OOC Schedule. First, I can't blame SMU or Brown for their bad scheduling as much as Pastner, because we knew we would be fighting for a decent seed, and SMU not as much. They far exceeding expectations. Next year, they need to be smarter about how they schedule
RPI of SMU's OOC Schedule:
8 (Virginia)
77
112
135
149
155
211
264
272
277
307
312
315
Worst OOC Schedules in the top 100 of the RPI
1) Utah
2) Stephen F Austin
3) SMU
2) RPI top 100 potential At Large teams with a sub 200 RPI loss
UCLA
Syracuse
Toledo
Kansas State
SMU
All of the above have more than double SMUs top 100 wins with the exception of Toledo
3) American conference losses to the bottom 4 teams
Louisville 0
Cincy 0
Memphis 0
UConn 0
SMU 2
4) American conference losses to the bottom 5 teams
Louisville 0
Cincy 0
Memphis 1
UConn 1
SMU 3

Sadly, SMU would have rolled over any of the play in teams.

SMU should have a play in game with Houston. That would be interesting. Those two cities already don't like one another.

Too much is being place on the OOC SOS stuff. It is one thing to play the tough teams OOC but if the other teams did not beat the tough teams what does mean in the long run. A better indication would be the SOS of schedule of the team you BEAT out of conference.

The loss at South Florida hurt them more than any other loss. They had some good wins, but losing to South Florida, Temple AND Houston did them in…. that and a total of 11 sub 200 games, 0 top 100 OOC wins, and only 1 quality win away from home

Whats amazing is that even with those facts, they were still the team that should have gotten in over NC State. My only point is that they can't overly complain. There is a decent case against them

Just something the committee used to justify it even if it was unfair.

RE: The truth about SMU
The committee picks whatever is convenient every year to try and justify their biases. The saddest thing is most of us know they do it and it continues. However, the easy out, as always, is if you are close to the bubble, that's your fault. Get off the bubble and these things won't happen to you. If SMU had beaten Arkansas or USF or Temple or Houston there would be someone else crying.

The truth about SMU
Just watched Larry's press conference and he said we have nobody to blame but ourselves but he is mad at the selection committee for slighting Louisville, UCONN, Cincinnati and Memphis.

I was going to pick SMU to go to the sweet 16. I had no idea that they weren't good enough to be in the tourney. total crap

SMU got snubbed because they lost their last 3 games of the season... Losing to Houston put the nail in the coffin.

At least we got a #1 NIT seed. I knew we were a bubble.

At least NC State didn't lose to powerhouses like North Carolina Central, Wake Forest and Clemson. At least NC State didn't get rolled by Duke by 35 points and Miami by 15 points. NC State had a half dozen excellent wins against Syracuse, Pitt, and 4 others that I couldn't find on their schedule.

With you, don't understand NCState over SMU or BYU over Wisc-GB or LTech/USM.
BYU may be the worst profile as an at large and they got a 10.
Really, it's all Providence's fault...

Good point on the losses to the bottom five teams. Losing to Houston hurt, but it exposed both the low RPI and the bad loss at USF. Then a couple of teams play their ways into the tournament...
Still thought they got shafted. The only reasons I can see NC State being picked ahead of them is the win over UT, and no sub-200 losses.
