MAC Tournament Format
So much for the MAC tournament bracket format helping to get a better seed for the MAC in the NCAA tournament. The idea was to enhance the chances of the teams with the best regular season record winning the tournament. These teams would theoretically have the better overall rankings and give a better seed to the MAC champion. Western Michigan was the #1 seed, tied with Toledo for the best regular season record and still received a #14 seed.

RE: MAC Tournament Format
WMU RPI was in the high 60's, so a 14 seed is about right

I don't understand your complaint. The #1 seed got into the tourney. That's what most conference want. Not like the horizon league where the #1 and # 2 seed both lost in the semifinals and the 5 seed goes to the dance. While Green Bay ranked in the top 60 doesn't get in and they beat UVA.

They're in the 110's on BPI and KenPom. I don't think the selection committee looks at these ranking but they're generally considered "smarter" than RPI which is a fairly limited way to rank reams. There are 10 teams lower than WMU on KenPom that made the tourney. So 14 seems about right.
