We Need a Breakaway and a New Tournament Not Selected By the NCAA
Admittedly the SEC was not consistently strong in basketball this year. But really, we got 2 teams in and a very strong Tennessee squad, likely stronger than many other 4th or 5th Conference selections, is having to play its way in against Iowa. Our other two solid entries we have are placed on the same side of the bracket and should they win out they would have to face each other for the 4th time this season in the semi finals. The nations top seed was placed in a bracket with a Kansas school that could easily have been a #1 seed, but was low rated to the 4th #2 position to get placed in a bracket with Florida. Arizona on the other hand was given a weak bracket to insure that the national audience would still be with us well into the sweet sixteen. And Virginia has but one real power to face on the way to the Elite 8 and that is Michigan State.

The SEC was screwed by the selection committee yet again. I guarantee you that we had 1 if not two other teams that should have made the field of 68 and there is no way that Tennessee should be playing their way in.

The way the tournament is handled it amounts to nothing more than welfare for a bunch of minor conferences and as a balancing tool for P5 conferences that don't earn enough bowl revenue. The SEC in the last 20 years has won more national championships in basketball than the Big 10 and has as many as the ACC. But because we love football first I don't think our fans protest enough. You do realize that we out drew the ACC in basketball attendance don't you? I think it's time Slive made some noise about the abuses.

Florida should not have to face a stacked deck as the nations top seed though most are on the other side of their bracket.
Kentucky and Florida should not be bracketed to face one another prior to the final game, especially since the SEC only has two main entrants and Tennessee if they play their way in still has to potentially play Kentucky in the Elite 8 and then they too would have to play Florida in the first round of the final four. So in essence the SEC has three teams in that if they all win will eliminate each other before the finals. With four brackets there is no damned excuse for this. Thoughts? I say let's get out of the NCAA and help to organize a P5 tournament that recognizes the New Big East, A10, MAC, Sunbelt, CUSA, and Moutain West conferences and distance ourselves from the rest.

I totally agree. Nebraska finished 19-12 and was awarded an 11 seed. How does that happen?03-banghead

We need conference wide scheduling deals with CUSA, MWC, MVC, and the ACC.

We also need better refs. Road teams don't stand a chance most of the time.

I also believe it is payback for our awesome football domination. I won't even watch it this year. It's a political joke. Missouri beat UCLA, the PAC 12 Tourney champs and they have a #4 seed. I understand missing the cut at 22-11, but some of the other selections made me sick.

We weren't happy either. And SMU being the first ranked top 25 school to make the NIT. Serious flaws in this years selection committee. Put 3 of the last final 4 in same Midwest while 3 AAC schools are in the East. Clowns Abound at NCAA HQ.

Did you see where the marquee at the SEC basketball tournament noted the "kickoff" time? 04-cheers

Yeah, down here "Tip Off" usually refers to a midweek lunch that boosters have with the basketball coach. Still it is a Freudian slip.

Coach K cried to the NCAA to get NC State in over SMU. Always fun to see stuff like that happen, right?

Now, the SEC is the conference that plays that sport with the funny shaped ball with points on the ends, right? 04-cheers

We had a recording of that 50 years ago. It's a classic. I haven't been able to look at rice boilers and cow patties the same way since!

Yes, Louisville definitely got screwed. I am ready more than ever to break the P5 away. I'm not sure what the contract looks like with CBS/Turner, but I assume it is an NCAA contract, not a conference or school contract. In other words, I don't think it could be broken unless the P5 schools totally left the NCAA. Any reshuffling of the deck within the NCAA probably means we are stuck with it as-is for a good while longer.
