He should be mad. The entire team should be mad. Murphy should be mad. A team that has 22 wins does not deserve this. People on here gripe about this team and Murphy potentially leaving and why he can't recruit high schoolers...maybe it starts with coaching home games in an empty library.

One thing I've always loved about Glenn Bryant is that he clearly cares. I'll miss that. Wish the students cared about their team as much as Glenn does.

I have no clue what can change the attendance problems. I wouldn't be surprise if a NCAA tournament trip didn't get us to avg. 1000 the following year.. Things are bad, very bad.

It's hard for me to say what could fix it either.

How was attendance in the mid 90's ? Has it always been sub par ?

What about football in the late 80's ?

I'd like to think that the "off campus" venues have a negative effect, but the U does everything they can in terms of providing transportation to the events, so there is really no excuse. Students need some type of incentive to go...

Maybe then they would realize the solid venues and competitive product we put out on the court.... (And hopefully soon at rynearson)

I'll say this.

Students, fans, and alumni don't make their choice to not attend in a vacuum. Their friends, neighbors, and other alums don't attend. And can we blame each of them after decades without success? Now that the team is doing their part on the court, the Board of Regents and the university need to do their part if they want change. We spend PENNIES on athletics marketing compared to what other schools our size do. Change needs to happen on their end if anything is to ever improve.

I agree with both of you. I can't imagine how difficult it is recruiting kids with this low of attendance. An NCAA trip would help attendance but that seems like a chicken and an egg circle.

But I feel like this season was an all time low of attendance, despite being more competitive than a long time. So marketing must be part of it.

For example, I had no idea Earl Boykins and Derrick Dial were being inducted to the hall of fame during the Toledo half-time. I know a lot of people who would have showed up had they known.

How about some kid discounts on tickets or free on weekdays as they have done in the past. (you still make money because kids love concession stand)

Also, play a few games at Bowen (which is awesome). You can get some more students "walking" to the games. Once they get a taste, maybe they will be more willing to make the trek to the Convo.

I agree with Frank and 79 too.

Also, I went to school during the Boykins/Dial days. Attendance was around 3,000/game then. Bowen was never sold out but felt full and would be rocking.

The university wanted to take the next step in building the Convo. I see what their rationale was and Convo is a great facility. But in retrospect, it seems Bowen had more character, was better sized for our fan base, and was more accessible to the students.

They had at least one retro Bowen game a few years back, and did a good job of recreating that atmoshphere.

Great article on Hustle Belt (from our own Alex Alvarado):

We even had an article on Deadspin about this. It's easily the most national coverage we've had all season...and for all the wrong reasons. Just embarrassing.

You know if UB had hosted a game (please don't give me grief about it) here is what they would have done..

1 - They would have sent out email to every alumni in their database
2 - They would have plastered the campus for two days with info about the games
3 - They would have went around to local businesses giving tickets to them for office prizes

I'm not saying during spring break UB would have been drawing 3-5,000 people but they would have brought in 1,500 to 2,000...

You cant "fix" the attendance problem in one fell swoop. You have to take things like the CIT and pump it up as if it were the NCAA's. I've heard your AD was quiet on the whole thing, not a lot of publicity..

It does not costs an AD a lot of money to spend a day on the phone with every office withing 50 miles of YPSI asking if they would like 5-10 tickets to give to their employees.

Also I heard that students were being charged? That is total armature hour. Your team and fans deserve better than that.

I think Alex did a great job of pointing out the groups and their problems but he did not hit the department itself hard enough..

RE: EMU hosts Norfolk State in CIT on Tuesday
Lekan Ajayi-this is why post season games matter, if he keeps getting the minutes I think we'll be impressed about his improvement. I don't care about his offense his defense will more than make up for it. Quite frankly I'm surprised this team went as far as it did in the MAC tournament-clearly not in synch last night. We need more consistent performances from Lee, Combs and yes Ward scoring wise. Norfork St came to play once again I question whether we did.

And yes the attendance was a joke, will not matter the second round since we can't play at home. I agree the students are the ones who live around campus and can't support either football or basketball. And the game last night wasn't a weekend game. Crap when I lived in Brown Munson I never missed a home game at Bowen and that was with the Ray Scott era. Murphy and company deserve better support than this.

I think it is fair to say that we will NEVER have decent attendance.

To me Michigan is just a dead beat state.

Why go watch EMU game when for couple bucks more you are watching Pistons get whooped 03-lmfao

You can purchase a tickets to next weeks Pistons game for 3$. How can we compete with that 03-lmfao03-lmfao

Metro Detroit is going through hard times, what makes us think that EMU will be different ?

The area needs to thrive again for us to gain some fans. PERIOD.

Hoping we avoid another MAC team in round 2. Akron lost tonight but Ohio won.

Ohio is taking on IPFW at home on Saturday. Still waiting on word for our next opponent. We know we'll be on the road.
