Timing couldn't be better. Men's hockey, coming off a painfully disappointing regular season, swept St. Cloud State in the first round of our conference tourney over the weekend and will play WMU or NoDak in the semifinals (in Minneapolis). This is certainly a good omen.

Congratulations to our ladies, they've earned it. In a perfect world Miami would be able to upgrade the program to varsity status and reboot our men's soccer/men's tennis/wrestling to go along with it, though the costs to do so would be pretty steep. One can hope.

On the men's side, I want to see Miami and Western (two of the 'newcomers' to the former WCHA rivals' league) play for the NCHC title and NCAA berth.

The Broncos won last Saturday AT North Dakota to knock them out of the regular season title. This weekend, WMU swept Minnesota-Duluth on the road to advance to the "Frozen Faceoff" in Minneapolis.

Wouldn't it be sweet to see the two former CCHA teams vying for the first league tournament title?

I want the same thing. Have two MAC schools and former CCHA rivals competing for the NCHC Tournament Championship would be great to see.

Without taking away from either of our accomplishments, it should be noted that only 21 teams compete at the Division I women's club ice hockey level. Nevertheless, congratulations to Miami are in order. For UMass, I'm pleasantly surprised that we have any women's team at all, let alone a good one. (UMass defeated Rhode Island in the semifinals, while Miami defeated Liberty, assuring that neither raving lunatics nor Liberty students would participate in the championship.)

Your wish may come true. NoDak beats CC tonight, we face the Sio...I mean North Dakota athletics team on Friday at 7:30. WMU plays Denver at 4.

Sounds like MAC fans should pay more attention to the Frozen Four Tournament than the Men's Hoops Tourney. More opportunity for a "MAC" team to get to the Frozen Four than Final Four

OU and Kent State sponsored Division I teams in the CCHA at one point or another. In a perfect world, they would've maintained their programs and the MAC would've been able to sponsor hockey with a few affiliates.

At least you get UND on neutral ice. We'll see if the Redhawk 'awakening' in time for the playoffs is for real. That last Miami trip to Grand Forks was a disaster. Hopefully, you can knock them off. Good luck.

The only way for either of our teams to get into the NCAAs is to win the NCHC tourney.

Here's the tournament bracket.

From a lot of what I read and heard in past years, UND fans travel well to Minneapolis. There are usually as many if not more UND fans as UM Golden Gophers fan at Xcel Energy Center when UND plays Minnesota. So this is hardly a neutral site game for Miami.

Eh, we had to play Michigan in Detroit last year during the CCHA tourney, so we're sorta used to a not-really-neutral-site game (though we did lose against scUM).

It's strange how even though we've been considerably worse this year, it's still mirrored seasons of the past. Usually we start off well in the fall and have the infamous 'Rico swoon' in January, where we lose some games we shouldn't have to worse teams. Then we come on strong in the end. The only problem was that we didn't start off all that great, so by the time the swoon hit we really bottomed out.

It's better to be hot or to be cold than to be lukewarm.
