Police body cameras
http://news.yahoo.com/officers-body-came...07269.html

Quote:The police department in Rialto, Calif., concluded a yearlong University of Cambridge study last year that found an 89 percent drop in complaints against officers during the camera trial.

Quote:Donelan said the danger with such footage is it taps into a human tendency to over rely on video at the expense of other accounts of an event, and can be especially problematic in high-adrenaline situations.

When that happens, "it's just about the camera," Donelan said. "It's the ultimate Monday morning quarterbacking tool."

Thoughts?

RE: Police body cameras
All police should do this...we now have the technology...when on duty, it should all be recorded.

RE: Police body cameras
i would love to see a radical overhaul on law enforcement. I would love to see greater protections such as these in place to make sure officers are accountable for their own actions, but also protected from frivolous complaints that can endanger their careers.

On another note I would also like to see a new bill that requires a warrant for certain types of technology that can be used during an investigation. the best example is the GPS tracker on a car example. in theory it is the same as "the old days" when cops would just tail a guy. But with a GPS it becomes so much easier to do this and cops can amass 100X the amount of information as before. or you have the "plate reader" date logs where police record every license plate and where the car has been and keeps it in a database. and on top of that you have total cr.ap such as the patriot act. I would love to see a new civil rights bill aimed at solving these issues because IMO the law hasn't caught up with the new technology we have in this day in age.

An armed (camera) police society is a polite police society.

RE: Police body cameras
Cameras aren't the problem. Over zealous cops aren't the problem. Out of control lawyers and an over lawyered society is the problem.

Cameras are actually the solution.
