JMU cleaned up at the CAA softball banquet tonight. They took home several All-CAA awards and 2 player of the year awards (Pitcher and player of the year I believe). Mickey Dean also won Coach of the Year. Hopefully the ladies can get a few wins this weekend and take home the tournament championship!

Won their first game today 3-2 over Towson. Move on the winner's bracket and play again tomorrow at noon.

and over #12 Louisiana Lafayette who only has 7 losses on the year.

Our softball team is fantastic. And YOUNG. These girls are going to be good for awhile. Dean is going to give Brooks a run for his money if he sticks around as best coach at JMU. The softball girls can make some national noise.

By the way - notice when the softball team really turned the corner? When the new complex was built.

Yet baseball is regressing....so why is that? I think we all know. I expect baseball to build back up quickly when a new coach is hired. The facilities are there. The leadership in the program is not. Things have gotten stale.

(please don't come back with admin bashing. we are talking about specific programs here).

I think Mickey Dean will get JMU to a softball World Series, and soon. The success this team has had was built on a young roster still missing key pieces. There are transfers eligible next year that are solid, and a very good class of freshmen coming in. He's a hard-ass, but he gets it done. His former players are very loyal, reminds me a lot of a Bobby Knight-like player relationship.

I plan to attend the Regional, if it's driveable.

So are we officially in or do we need to win 1 more? Isn't the tournament double elimination?

We need one more, but it'll be against either Towson or Hofstra, since Charleston was just eliminated. Plus with our resume and our RPI, there's basically no way we don't make it to the NCAA tournament even if we happen to lose 2.

I felt that way about the Lady Dukes in 2012 for basketball....The hedgemony of the major conferences in women's college sports dwarfs that of men's. I don't think they take two CAA teams for any reason.
