A game like this shows you just how little real progress has been made after four long years of Dickey ball. Other than Dickeys immediate family and maybe Mack Roades, nobody truly believes Dickey is going to build Houston into a strong basketball program. I'd argue we were as good or better under Penders. In 4 years under Dickey I'd say there has been zero measureable progress. The only reason that some believe there was progress is because Dickeys first two years were so horrible. Compared to Penders last few years, we are no better and possibly worse. Penders last year resulted in an NCAA bid. We haven't been anywhere close to a bid under Dickey. He has to go.

You have more talent under Dickey but the team had a better team concept under Penders. And that is saying something.

Yup. But now that players can see that Dickey has absolutely no idea what to do that talent, I think his recruiting will begin to suffer. We need to bring in a legitimate coach who can recruit. I'd love for us to spend SMU money on a big splash hire, but I know we wont. Sill, you can be frugal and still hire a quality coach. Hopefully we can pull that off.

Look at Donnie Tyndall at USM.

We need a big name coach... Someone who wants to coach here in Houston at a reasonable price... But who??

You don't need a big name coach, you need a coach who can win. And Tyndall is a coach who can win. A Houston team that wins 22, 23 games a year in this conference will bring fans in regardless of who the coach is.

There are lots of interesting posiblities that wouldnt break the bank. Mike Price at LaTech, Bruce Pearl (currently under a show cause NCAA order), Jason Hooten (SHSU), and Lonn Reisman at Tarlenton State are interesting guys. There are big time assistants at VCU and other top programs. There are some pro assistants and D league coaches that are interesting as well.

Bruce Pearl would be ideal for us, coaching, recruiting etc... Will probably have Houston on top in no time... But I'm afraid he may be over Houston's price range.

To speak the obvious, UL looks primed to defend their national title. Pitino has them peaking at the right time again.

RE: Louisville - Houston Game Thread
Bruce Pearl isn't an 'Elite' coach, but he is in that next level of 'Very Good' coaches, which is a relatively small group just like the elites, and certainly above merely 'Good' coaches who proliferate (to say nothing of the lower 2 levels of 'Not Very Good' & 'Bad' coaches). He would be a great get for just about anyone. Heck, I'd take him if the Cards couldn't get any of the couple of young hotshots I'd want them to go after if they needed a new coach right about now...
