CSS Sports shutting down June 1
CSS has televised a number of C-USA football and basketball games.

Meh, it is a crappy channel that is always causing problems for me.

Not necessarily a good thing.

Horrible news for the conference. Look forward to more crappy All-Access broadcasts.

RE: CSS Sports shutting down June 1
My expectation would be that the regional FSN's would pick up more of that inventory. But not sure at this point.

One league this really hurts is the Sun Belt. That's really all they had was CSS with just a couple of games a year on the ESPNs.

I think we're going to be ok. The contract is set to expire in two years. Obviously it goes without saying that our performance on the football field in 2014 and 2015 are going to be critical for us to gain a foothold with one of the networks. Making some noise in the NCAA hoops tourney would be useful about right now too. The good news is there is a lot of time slots that need to be filled between CBS, Fox, and NBC Sports. I don't see ESPN bidding on C-USA with so much inventory already on their books that now has most leagues booked through the 2020's. Only the Big 10 will be up for grabs between now and then and that comes after our new contract will be established.

CSS bought unused inventory from CBS, so it's likely those games won't be picked up by anyone.

THey will bid on stuff just to keep it off the other networks... doesn't mean they'll broadcast it..

I'm not worried about it.

It's not impractical for regional Fox to pick up more going forward. They only picked up two hoops games this past season. It would be nice if the commish would work that angle.

Might not be a bad idea though for schools to work on their third tier packages within their own markets. We got 7 or 8 basketball games broadcast out of Nashville this year.

There are a number of other Comcast regional sports channels that could pick up games or Fox regionals. Maybe even sell a few to NBC Sports that has no football that I know of. Plus Root regional networks. All of these and more are on DirecTV. Does the conference employ a door to door salesman? Get his butt on the road. 02-13-banana

This is true. We have a good agreement with MyTV30 here in the Middle Tennessee metro area, and I think it's very worthwhile for other schools to pursue such contracts.

I would think that FS1/FS2 would look to pickup any of those games. They REALLY need more live programming and college football is a huge one at that.

I assume BB is talking to them about that or having the FS Regionals pick up games.

Our friend ArkSt brought up a good point. The SEC had the 11:21am Saturday syndicated game of the week. That will now be on the SEC Network. Maybe C-USA can get something going there with the local affiliates.

OK, I wondered where SEC Network games were coming from. Will this free up any other slots...ESPN, regionals? I'd think SB, CUSA, and AAC would be interested in filling the vacated time slots...though the AAC already had noon ESPN network games last year so they may not gain much. Thoughts?

ETA: Was it really 11:21AM? <snicker>

I think NBCSN will look to buy some SBC games and possibly CUSA games (they only have FCS leagues currently)

When SBC contract comes up, look for NBCSN to big heavily on it. Hell any next FBS conference contract coming up.

Css games were a pain. They were exclusive rights broadcasts, so you could never find a stream, and they were always blacked out on Comcast regional affiliates.

Having said that, we had three or four games on css every season for the past few years. I wonder what the future holds.
