Last season Geron Johnson was the next coming of D. Rose and a lock-down defender.

This season he just doesn't have any dog.

But next year will be better!!!!

that's what a season under pastner will do to you. if he has shown the knack for anything, it's taking the dog out of players. hell, he's taken the dog out of some of the fans, as evidenced by this board.

Classic overreaction after a loss. Sure, I would've loved to see the 4 senior guards live up to the pre-season hype, but they didn't. MAYBE that hype wans't justified in the first place. I mean, who didn't live up to their hype during their time there?

- Joe was a McDonald's AA. Had a very solid 4-year career
- Chris was a 3-star who only held offers from us, UT, and Mississippi State. Played like that.
- Geron was a solid mid-major/JUCO prospect. Played like that.
- Dixon was a solid 6th man. Did the same thing this year.

Next year will be better? With 2 freshmen running point? Maybe...but let's not get carried away. They'll likely go through the same growing pains and I'm sure we will all b!tch about that when the time comes.

But you guys have at least one more game, give it all you got.

I feel the same way. I'm ready for a new group of guys. I hope the next group is tougher.

It's really this. As much as people want to make it about Shaq and Austin, who have both player great overall; it's about the guards!!! We have to have at least 2 play well. If we have only one, or none, play well, we'll lose to a good team. If we have 3 or 4 play well, we'll beat a lot of good teams.

It ain't about the posts, guys and gals. It's about the guards. it always has been, and it always will be. Pastner was right about that.

If we had 2 players exactly like Andre Allen starting at guard; posters would recognize that we have serious limitations and would temper their expectations. JJ and Geron are shooting a combined 27% from 3 point land. This affects the entire offense. IMO, if they could manage to shoot 38% - 40% between them, it would magically take care of most of our problems on offense.

Pookie had to sit out this year, Markell hasn't played in most of two and Magee will have to make the usual JUCO adjustment.

Next year will likely be pretty rough at least for the first half of the season.

You obviously don't even know who Magee is.

yes sorry got him and Woodson mixed up late last night.

You are obviously a smartass.

Outside of arguably saving the program- even should they suffer a first round loss next week.

We would shoot a much better % if we ran some kind of offense that produced good shots.

These guys have given us many Ws and thrills during their career. Save this thread for next yr. Some of these comments will sound silly as we are breaking in Frosh and newcomer guards

I think the focus is clearly on the inconsistency and underwhelming nature of this system. This game is simply an example of both of those things. This guys' system and motivational techniques don't work here.

Chick announcer nailed it. She said "at some point Pastner needs to let his team feel some heat". I agree with her... Instead, he is smiling and clappin.

I have a feeling that every team in the country that will fire their coach this year will have Josh at the top of their list for possible replacements.

This!, I pray for.

If he is so horrible, why would he be at the top of anyones list?

RE: I have enjoyed Joe, Chris, and geron
We have been bad defensively all year long. Offensively, it all comes down to shooting the ball. Especially from 3. When we started out the season slow, Pastner said our shooting will come around. Opposing coaches agreed with him because they still guarded us out past the 3 pt line. When the shooting remained cold, you could see the difference in how we were being played. Mick Cronin said he wanted us to shoot from outside and that he was only concerned with Crawford. Kevin Ollie did the same thing. The turnovers started to get up when it wasn't as easy to feed the post due to opposing player sagging off. Early in the season, Shaq could put the ball on the floor because it was basically one-on-one but now he's getting stripped. Again because of the opposing players sagging off into the paint. As far as offensively, what do you think it does to a player mentally when you're given a good look from 3 and still can't knock it down? Opposing teams are begging Joe and Geron to shoot it. Confidence is destroyed. Mike and Chris are streaky. Think about it. Those are the only 2 shooters we have on our team.
