Late season random thoughts
First off, the Tigers got spanked tonight...nothing else to say. I am defender of this squad and the coaching staff. But I think they wilt under the pressure of this type of game at home. To be honest, I hated the idea of the conference tourney being at the Fed. Much less pressure on the road. Second, probably heading for a 8/9 game and that will be hard to play out of. However, this is the year of anyone can win it. Remember this is the team that was one missed layup from taking the Gators to overtime. Before this group is gone, I want to say that I have enjoyed watching them play for the most part. I will miss them. But it looks like we are reloading and not rebuilding, so I look forward to the new group of guards to go with King, Shaq, and Nichols. Last thing I want to say is actually a question. So many on this board want a coach with a proven track record. Who exactly is it that you want? Please don't tell me Pearl. You take that guy on and you might as well put a sign out front that says "WE ARE CHEATING IN HERE...COME TAKE DOWN ANOTHER BANNER!!!" I am over the old ways. There are 100 other schools out there that would kill to have this program's success. That's it...I am taking my happy self to bed and try to sleep...but I doubt it comes. Good night and go Tigers!

There are 100 other programs that would love to have our success. But, We got there by winning, and demanding and expecting a winner. We didn't just throw pennies into a well. It's relatively simple.

It isn't easy. But, being scared of what could happen isn't a reason to stay the course. All in all, I have been happy with Josh this year. But, what bother's me is the statement that he wants to stay with small ball despite having King, Austin, Shaq, Woodson, and Hawkins all on the squad next year. If Kuran stays (I hope he does), going with 3 inexperienced guards will be beyond disturbing.

We got there by beating the hell out of CUSA. Fredo's W/L record wouldn't be any better than JP's right now.

Who are we reloading with exactly? Lol. Next year is going to be 10x rougher. That is not something to look forward too.

I believe we are reloading at the guard position with Magee and the redshirts Powell and Crawford. Magee and Crawford are 6'3" and 6'5" respectively. Big physical guards with what we already have will be tough to beat.

RE: Late season random thoughts
I'll say this and then read comments the rest of the day:

We didn't just "have a bad day" or "wilt" per se'.

What occured was yet again an opposing coach being able to dictate how we play. Ollie's interview mentioned uconn focusing on limiting the bigs and allowing the guards to shoot as many (wild) shots as they liked. THIS has been the same game plan from just about every coach this season (when successful, this is the outcome) and yet Pastner still hasn't figured this out.... instead he says stuff like "we just didn't make our shots".

Do not allow opposing coaches to dictate the type of shots we take and maybe we'll "make shots".

Also, Pastener's defensive schemes are downright horrendous. I don't care of Barham was still on the team, telling your players to NOT leave Giffey open no matter what isn't that hard to do or to demand.... he was stationary in the corner all night..

I love that statement...I also love the enthusiasm from our fan-base and coach, That it's hard to sleep after a drubbing! Please, please don't allow your players to come onto the court, unprepared anymore; As if they have no idea or no clue.....Because when they do, it makes the coach look like he is unprepared or has no clue!07-coffee3

If it is so simple, why are there 100+ other programs that would love to have our "problems"?

And "we" got "there" every 10 years by having once in every 10 year type players. Not so this year. But it will happen. Unless clowns rule the day. And I doubt that will happen.

No.

We won at the rate so many are accustomed to, and pining for, because the coaches assembled a team of very talented bball players, coached them effectively, and played most games against teams with less talent on the roster in C-USA. Many, many years prior to that we had "good" teams, were competitive with very near every opponent, and were very happy to have 22 or 23 wins and thus be assured of getting in the tourney.

Granted, there is reasonable debate these days if the coaching is "effective", and we've had far too many of the games like last night where we weren't competitive.

My satisfaction with the coaching is waning. (not that it matters what I think)

Next season, with new starters at the guard positions, I expect us to struggle and all the people who "demand and expect" 30 wins are going to be howling.

That has been the most difficult thing for me this season.

I know we have accomplished so very much; but these butt whippings are hard to swallow.

Having a JUCO and redshirts will help, but I expect significant struggles for at least the first third. Hope I'm wrong.

Yep. I can understand the cases like Cincy or Houston where their bigs simply out-muscled our skinny bigs, but the games where we look like the 13 year old freshman team scrimmaging the varsity squad are disturbing. Sure, sometimes you run into a buzzsaw like at SMU, but we looked completely outclassed in some games.
