That would be Ole Miss supporter, Jim Barksdale. Fred believed in him and it cost the company over a billion dollars before it was shut down.

Barksdale lasted well beyond the end of zapmail, so I guess Smith would keep such an employee. It always depends on what the alternatives are.

When Zapmail was shut down, he turned in his resignation, but Fred convinced him to stay. He eventually went to Mcgraw and then Netscape but remains on the board at Fedex. Fred values his opinion but he has a less than stellar record for leading a company but he seems to be better at consulting. If Josh offered his resignation today, I am not sure many would try convincing him to stay.

If that guy was pulling in $20+ millions in revenue and was responsible for paying for the rest of department budget? Yep!
