UConn defense..
Josh says they clogged the middle on us tonight. I'm impressed with how they did that AND guarded us so well on the perimeter, as we got very few open looks from 3.

Real simple. Teams shoot the ball at the 3 point line and in. We guard 35 feet from the basket and get blown by leaving a load of options for the offense as the D scrambles.

first time I've noticed it - but i've read about it on here several times. when we guard, we always, ALWAYS, go for the steal which ends up letting the guy blow past our man into the paint where it's practically a 3 on 1 or 3 on 2.

Our offense is set up to work inside out. Our jump shots come from drive and dish. We were unable to dish the ball cleanly to open player. Our SUPERIOR guards didn't run the offense as it was designed. We go too deep on the drive and get compacted into a small area with no passing angles. Or they decided to try and go one on one with everyone else standing there watching.

Steals are a stat which the player can point to and say see what i did. No stat in the box score for how many times you shut down a drive and force him to reset and start over.

When your guards have consistently proven that they are either going to shoot a 3 or drive all the way to the basket they become very predictable...And when the other team realizes that no one is going to beat them from 3 it becomes that much easier to shut down the inside game...
But I would have been ok with our offensive performance if we would have put up a fight defensively...You are going to have nights where you can't throw it in the ocean.

Our guards also let people drive by them expexting help. Help that isn't there. Our guards let them go right as well. None of it makes bball sense at all. Always force them to go left if they're right handed. This is middle school stuff.

They're a very good team.
I really enjoy watching them.
I don't understand all the hate for napier. He's awesome.
I just wish he'd have had an off game against Memphis... ugh

We never had a good run during last nite's game.
Not sure what, but UCONN has our number....3 L's to UConn and I'm not sure what UConn has that stymied us......and please don't say "a coach"....they hit everything they put up while we missed lay-ups.

RE: UConn defense..
Another thing that made their hack a tiger defense work so well is that we did not hit our free throws. If we were hitting them they would have been less likely to play as physical as they did. They woudl have had to loosen up on their defense and we may have gotten better shots.

Sad part is that lots of times we don't gamble and get beat either. I've watched Crawford, all year long, simply get blown by off the dribble...not going for a steal, just playing lazy defense. So frustrating.
