Pastner = Future HOF Coach a Certainty?
why are some folks so certain he will become a hall of fame coach? what is it about him and his accomplishments thus far that guarantee the future success of pastner as a head coach and more specifically the head coach of the memphis tigers? and by success, i mean a national championship. not multiple titles. just one title. i'm not greedy. please discuss, and try to keep it civil.

Work ethic but he better figure out what kind of player he needs. He needs dogs that don't need tough motivation

I truly worry for the program. He is so inexperienced and over his head. I won't be renewing my season tickets or attending another game in person until he's gone. There are better options available right now who could do so, so much more with this talent. I can't for the life of me understand why the powers-that-be committed to that much money for such an unproven guy.

I think the ncaa's will clear the air with that quickly. If he doesn't get past the first weekend, questions have to be raised.

Working hard might be necessary, but is hardly sufficient to succeed at something. A lot of people work hard to paper over incompetence. A lot of people work hard at something they're just not naturally suited for.

I expect a lot of the east Memphis season ticket holder base to follow that lead as well.

what's amazing is he tripled his salary here in 5 years and did very little for it. His best coaching job here was his first season. Since then, he consistently won in a league which he overwhelmed with talent, yet was average in a league with similar talent. Memphis, prior to moving to the American, was the easiest job in America to bank serious coin, and Josh did... now its time to earn it.

Josh is a great fundamentals guy and a great recruiter. He seems to lack the ability to control his team.

I would change that to

Josh is a great guy who just can't coach very well.

Calm down 80s. Lol

This team is not talented like most elite programs. Period. We have a few elite skilled players.

His teams do not play good fundamental defense.

I think he knows the game exceptionally well. He can't lead.

To quote John Maxwell, "Leadership is influence."

It's unfortunate though, because better leaders would have done so much more with this team.

Our guys are very skilled in the layup drill during pregame. Hardly see them miss.

Otherwise lots to work on.

I understand I'm a little worked up tonight. But I'm done. Completely done. Finished. I've had it. Over. No more excuses. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, and I've determined mine. Now we'll probably go to the Final Four this year.

I feel ya. I'm disappointed as well but I've been a little less than honest with myself about this teams limitations because I want so bad for these young men to go out on a high note.
