Next year we'll have ZERO experience in the back court. Pookie (sat out a year) Markel (hasn't played in two) and JUCO transfers who will need a year to adjust.

Should be fun.

RE: Coaching problem or player problem?
Both.

These players are not as talented as we thought. Tonight for example:
Joe 4-12
Chris 3-11
Geron 3-8
MD Jr. 0-7
Also the team shot 55% from the line. This is pathetic.

The coach has no idea what he is doing.
He constructed this team with glaring flaws and did nothing to compensate for those flaws.

Teams CAN run 3 and often even 4 guards. Villanova rode it to the Final Four a couple years back.
Teams CAN NOT run 3 and 4 guards when 2 are 27% 3 point shooters. Add to this the fact that they are not able to finish consistently in a crowded paint.
This is why you hear him always put it on "making shots". Against a good team if we make outside shots we are good if not we get blown out.

The teams defense is poor on the perimeter and breaks down all too regularly.

Having said all that, the coach recruited all these guys. He better have a "course correction" on his own self.

Pastner's new motto should be if you can't play defense you can't play for me.

Exactly that right there isn't coaching that's all on player responsibility. Coaching is only going to do so much. Tonight Josh could have run around naked and it still wouldn't have helped. Players didn't show up tonight.

I mean we played zone and still let them drive right by or gave up wide open threes. Thus is squarely on the players tonight. Coaches get the blame because that's the way it goes

Not commenting on Pastner, but i want to point out Uconn lost their last game by 40 points. So it is false to say that Ollie gets his players to play with heart and passion. Like Memphis, they do it sometimes and not other times.

RE: Coaching problem or player problem?
Even if a coach "motivates" a player, once the game starts, reality kicks in and then it's on the player. Our guys have showed heart during some games this year, Gonzaga, Louisville, and the last SMU game. But they didn't show any heart tonight, so I put this more so on the players, but Coach also has to take his share of the blame.

Coaching problem or player problem?
The fault lies both ways. Regardless, it's completely embarrassing.

Yep, deer in the headlights again…

Bottom line is these guys can’t play and our coach can’t coach in crunch time.

Both are scared to death.

I had excellent seats tonight right behind the bench ... I purposely didn't even watch the game for about the last 5 minutes of the first half and up to about a 18-point UConn lead in the second - I kept my eyes 100% on Pastner the whole time. I didn't see a thing other than him walking with his arms crossed and clapping a few times when something good randomly happened. Meanwhile we're completely lost. Hopelessly clueless to respond.

I don't know how many ranked teams Bartow coached. They were ranked 1972-73, but I'm not sure about his other years there.

Kirk lost to Louisville 3 times a couple of times. I think they lost all 3 in 1979-80, 1982-83 and again in 1985-86. The Tigers weren't ranked in 79-80, but they were in 82-83 & 85-86.

Finch went 0-4 vs Cincinnati in 1991-92, and the last 2 games were blowouts.

When Cal was here, the teams in our conference were lousy. Even before the split, Louisville & Cincinnati weren't nearly as good then as they are now, or they were before Cal got here.

When you lose by this much, this late in the season, and on your home court by someone you're ranked highrr than, it's coaching.
[/qu

You have to blame both coaching and the players. Our free throw and field goal shooting was the worst I have ever seen. Plus I would have benched every starter with 10 min. to go in the game because they did not come to play. How many times was number 5 wide open for a 3.

This team is the most bipolar team I have ever seen. One minute on a high and next forgot how to play basketball.

I've done the same a few times this season at the games while sitting behind the bench. Came away with the same perception.

There's not much teaching or instruction.

All the doom & gloom and naysayers out in full force tonight.
How are you folks and gentlemen?
I still love yall though.

This team will win a few games in this tourney. They just got embarrassed...as well as the coaching staff.
They'll be up for it....I promise you.
