Cop Shoots Unarmed Airman After Minor Traffic Accident
...and the PD didn't even notify the family for SIXTEEN HOURS. And he was on his way to "fight for our freedom" (just not the freedom to avoid being gunned down in the street by cops for no reason). He obviously won't be able to fulfill that dream now. Don't worry though, the cop has been suspended with pay, so I'm sure he has learned his lesson.

Quote:Michael Davidson, an airman with the Air Force, was reportedly shot in the abdomen by Phillip Hancock, a cop from the Opelika, Alabama police department. Davidson was involved in a minor accident with a diesel truck on I-85 last week, according to his father, Billy Davidson, who said he spoke to his son after the airman regained consciousness in an Alabama hospital.

The airman was on his way to North Carolina, where he was going to be stationed at Seymore Johnson Air Force Base, according to his father, who says police did not inform him they had shot and critically wounded his son until noon the next day.

RE: Cop Shoots Unarmed Airman After Minor Traffic Accident
Saves the cop from having to go to the shooting range for required practice.
That's really an inconvenience.

Another week another what sounds like ridiculous shooting by a police officer.
Watched the video of the 70 year old man that was stopped in traffic and was
shot 6 times and killed for reaching in and getting his walking stick out.
In Charlotte guy was shot ten times by a police officer, unarmed of course.
This makes being shot by law enforcement more risky than invading the United States from Mexico.

All isolated incidents that you shouldn't worry about, even though statistics show you're much more likely to be killed by law enforcement than by the terrorists you've had to give up many of your rights to be protected from, in part by law enforcement.

Because all you can do is laugh at the police state we've become:

This guy may have shot the airman, but at least he didn't shoot the seaman. Rimshot

Oh that's bad.
Hope the airman or his family never read this thread.
Gallows humor.

Disgusting what this policeman has done in this case. The militarization of police depts in recent years is disturbing.

RE: Cop Shoots Unarmed Airman After Minor Traffic Accident
Saw an ear camera video a few minutes ago of a police officer in a nearby county where he rolls into a neighborhood
to respond to a report of someone showing a gun to the kids in the neighborhood. He gets out and almost shoots the
17 year old that picked the gun up from a lawn table in front of a house. He said if the kid had turned an inch he
would have shot him, or if he hadn't dropped it when told to do so. Turns out it was an air pellet gun.
Got to admit, the officer is a credit, he didn't panic like a lot of them do.

While I don't like hearing about cops shooting unarmed citizens, I agree with you for now about waiting for the facts. That article explains nothing about the actual situation.

IA should all over that. Opelika isn't a small town either.

But then again, I suppose we could look at it in a 'stand your ground' context.

What possible "context" is that? Give it a rest.

And while I dispute your assertion regarding Trayvon, I guess you, in the interest of fairness, would be okay with the cop shooting him if he threw a punch? In this case, the victim is white. 'Jus sayin'

I don't think it was okay for Zimmerman to murder Trayvon nor do I think the cop was justified in this case (pending further details). I think the onus of proving, beyond a reasonable doubt that DEADLY force is justified, should be the critical question asked in both cases (in Zimmerman's I don't think he met the standard).

In Zimmerman's case, he didn't have to meet it. And by law, that's not a requirement for the defendant in either case.

I couldn't care less about the race of the victim, and I find the insinuation in your comment to be highly offensive.

For the record, I posted that comment for effect. I don't know whether Trayvon threw the first punch or not. Neither do you, or anyone else except George Zimmerman, and he's under no obligation to tell.

And you're not going to get a murder conviction if you can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt who threw the first punch. You might get manslaughter, although I'm not sure there's enough evidence here for even that.
