OT: Panthers release Steve Smith

Hate to see him go. He had atleast one more year in him. Salary caps are really hurting some of these NFL franchises.

Fear the Panthers will take a step back. Who the heck is Newton going to throw the ball to?

Interesting what Gettleman is doing, a complete overhaul of our 3 weak spots (OL, WR, and DBs)

Rumored that Hakeem Nicks from the Giants may be coming to the Panthers. He was cut a couple of days ago also because of salary cap issues. Also rumored that Smith may go to the Giants.

Giants interest: Now that the Giants don't have to worry about Smith's full cap number ($7 million), the Giants could at least take a look. They need somebody opposite Victor Cruz next season to replace free agent Hakeem Nicks, who has been rumored, coincidentally, to be interested in joining Carolina

I hope they focus on these spots during the draft. I don't recall getting alot of help on offense at last years draft.

We didn't but we doubled dipped at our weakest position and it paid huge dividends. Panthers' screamed and kicked at that move.
