Does Auburn have any recruits we would want to poach?

Not really. They did have a signee that may decide to go elsewhere now.

About the only thing related may be with Person.

Not sure if he is still an option with UAB, but with a new Auburn coach he may be an option at Auburn.

With all of the other schools in the SEC, getting your W's in the conference will be tough.

Especially with Arkansas, LSU, & now Ole Miss trying to take it up a notch.

This. Anyone they hire needs to look hard at the job to avoid being where Barbee is now. Sure, they'll hire you and pay you pretty good money and it's an SEC job, but for almost every coach who takes the job it's a career wounding if not killing job. How does Barbee's resume look now compared to when he got the job?

If you can get assurances of enough money to hire very good assistants, if the new HC is very good indeed, maybe he digs that program out of the ditch... but more likely is that he struggles a while, has some moderate success, then takes his lumps and his buyout and moves along.

The thing is that most guys who are HC's also have an ego that convinces them that they can do the job where others failed.

That's part of the problem. I think Barbee may have 2 guys he actually recruited still on the team. He's had a great many misses in recruiting that started with the 2 guys from Central Park Christian that he "swayed" from UAB who are now at Ga State(and doing very little)...

RE: Barbee Fired, of course
I look at the history of UKY, a BB school that also plays FB, but has not had any real success in it. Then I look at UA and AU, FB schools that also play BB, and have not had a lot of success in it. All 3 schools usually manage to sign one or two (in a good recruiting year) top recruits in their "off brand" sport, but not enough to put a winning team in play. This history is a barrier to the 3 schools getting a top national name coach for their "off brand" program. They are usually the poster child for the "hired to be fired" organization.

I just saw Joe Lunardi's "Bubble list" on ESPN regarding SEC team's probability of making the 2014 NCAA. Locks: Florida and UKY ; Bubble: Ark, UTK, MO and UGA. Note the absence of SEC West teams besides Ark. Back when the East and West were separate, the whole West was usually in a tie (W-L ranking) for 5th place with the East. The West teams could usually only beat each other. I have to think this history is known within the coaching ranks and affects who they can hire.

Yep. Let's keep that our little secret though & let them think otherwise.

At least he managed to talk about UK football without talking about the coaching legacy there.

A friend just got Email from Battle (AD) at Bama endorsing Grant. So Grant appears to be safe.

Grant will have one good year in 2015 and they'll be stuck with him. I'm fine with it.

Unless they have a hell of a replacement lined up, it doesn't make any sense to fire Grant right now.

There are some coaches that are as crooked as can be, yet they still end up with a coaching job.

Heath was one of them, the Missouri coach is another, & Pearl will be back in the mix soon I suppose.

If Stan Heath is crooked, he's horrible at being crooked. Cheating usually results in winning. He hasn't won since he left Kent State

Pearl's Show Cause does not allow contact with student athletes until August, so anyone hiring him would have to contend with that.

Then again, I'm sure there are ways to get around a little thing like that...

Don't see how Heath is crooked, Pearl isn't really that bad either what he did at UT is now legal to the NCAA. No big time coaches are perfect.

RE: Barbee Fired, of course
Interesting tidbit I picked up listening to Gary Parrish

The lead NCAA investigator on the Pearl case now works in compliance at Auburn. That may affect whether he is hired at Auburn or not.

I agree that what Pearl did was not that bad considering all the other corruption. He was just too arrogant and thought he could get away with it by lying through his teeth.

If there were other things that the NCAA couldn't prove but know about, that compliance officer at Auburn knows about it too
