Championship Week Thread
Rutgers beat USF 72-68 to advance to play Louisville tomorrow.

Isiah Sykes just hot a shot at the buzzer to win for UCF over Temple. However, ball was still in his hand when the buzzer sounded, so Overtime in Memphis. 76-76. Perfect situation for UC (although I think UC will roll no matter which team they play tomorrow).

Potential Bubble Team Georgetown blowing any chance they have to make the tournament. Down 57-54 to DePaul with 16 seconds left.

Minute left. UCF up by 4. Much rather face them. Temple has played us close.

Central Florida does everything it can to let Temple force double overtime and what do you know? It works. Double OT in Memphis.

Whoever we get tomorrow is going to be dog tired by the end of the game. I'm glad, we can save up energy for the Memphis/UConn contest in the third round.

Dang...Temple has only played 7 players throughout this game and on has only been in for 6 minutes. I cannot fathom how tired Cummings, DeCosey, and Pepper are right now.

You know people debate the validity of Conference tournaments and how they minimize the importance of the regular season. I see and understand their points.

But for me these next few days rivals next Thursday and Friday for the amount of actual work I will get done in the afternoons. 04-rock

Go Cats!

Several schools that spent the entire season grinding it out and becoming a league champion have already been knocked off in their league tournaments and will not be in the NCAA tournament.

I think the regular season champion should get the automatic bid. The league tournaments should still be played, and some sort of auto-bid should be worked out for the champion or runner-up for each of those.

so in the case of this season, the bearcats would get the auto bid because they won the coin toss?

I guess so. That's what the AAC set up as a tie breaker. But there is still an opportunity for another team to get in if they win the tournament.

I've not thought this out, obviously. I just think the reward should go the regular season champion. I don't know how to make it work.

Do it like MLB does. One game playoff to decide who gets the NCAA tourney bid.

If it was a one game playoff between UofL and UC neither would've cared much about that playoff game and the autobid as the reward as both knew they were going to get at large bids. They might've both fielded their walk-ons so none of their impact players got hurt.

I like it as-is, though I'd like to reduce the at-large bids so we can lose those goofy "1st round" games. Besides, don't regular season champs that done win their tourney get autobids to the NIT? NIT bids should still mean a great deal to a small conference school.
