Our girls are going to be dead after tomorrow, so I think CMU is where the road will end if we do beat Akron. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, but 5 wins in 6 days is too many.

Just posted in the MAC tourney thread, but Bradford is out of the tourney with a knee injury. If UT can get by Akron ... who knows.

Ana had a remarkable game and she didn't even really play all that much in the first half----without her 8 for 10 shooting the team shot 23%, not 44%. With this win the team assures itself of not having a losing season, although they will need a win tomorrow to have a winning season. Akron is the 3rd best team in the league and the Rockets played probably their worst league game at home against Akron----still the Rockets can win but they are going to have a near perfect game.

Akron actually represents an opportunity for Coach Cullop to break new ground. Starting as she has with byes in her 5 previous tournaments, she has only won 2 games in a given MAC tournament once before (in her first season in 2009-2010) and tomorrow she has the chance to win a 3rd game. This team has already won 2 more tournament games than last year's team and if they can find a way to win tomorrow they will have advanced as far in the tournament as last year's highly acclaimed team did. So a win gives them a winning season and a deep run into the MAC tournament which I suspect is as much or even more than could realistically have been expected from this young team.

Terrible news. She is such a dominant player and a joy to watch even while I'm hating her. Hope she heals well. Is Teca OK? I understood that she was injured and left their last game.

Akron's Rachel Tecca was hurt last weekend against BG, only played 3 minutes. Bradford is out for CMU. Another perfect scenario for Lady Rockets like the WNIT???03-idea

As Coach Cullop pointed out in post game remarks, it was team passing and picks that got her the ball both open and with time to set her feet. Excellent team play with ball movement.

Apparently there have been no updates on the nature of Tecca's injury but she is expected to play.

Absolutely and I was happy to see Ana getting the ball with open looks. I don't know why it hasn't also worked for Elena because in her last 32 minutes of floor time she has only taken 3 shots (all from 3 point land and all good). As I mentioned somewhere on this thread during the game, it is important to work to try to get good looks for the players who happen to have the hot shooting hand at any given time during a game.

Unlike some hardy souls, the wife and I were chicken to try to make it to Cleveland today but we will be there tomorrow.

RE: WBB: MAC 2nd round: #7 Western Michigan vs. #6 Toledo
I enjoyed this game for many reasons but I forgot that it is not a good idea for a basketball referee to sit in our fan section 05-mafia **I'll make sure I'm in a more isolated place tomorrow 03-wink

Our interior defense is awful and I was surprised how Western didn't try and pound the ball inside more in the 2nd half instead of jacking up shots. Then again, Western couldn't really hit anything from anywhere on the court.

It was nice to see 5 players in double digits because this team will not survive on Dola and Inma alone. However, I still don't understand why we don't try to look inside more often for points. There were several instances where Jones and Reecher had established solid position in the interior but were passed up. I know both ladies aren't exactly scorers but I just though those opportunities were too good to give up.

It was obvious that we outhustled Western for most of the game. I appreciate that, especially when the bench is rather thin. It's going to be a tough battle tomorrow but it's certainly winnable...especially if Ana or Elena decide to drain a few threes04-rock

Finally, I know Jodi Kest (Akron's coach) is another whiner to the officials. I always am entertained by coaches who disagree with every call...unless of course Im the referee 03-thumbsup

Seeing that 50 car pileup on the turnpike probably made you glad you didn't go. Awful that 3 people died in that. Exactly why people should stay off the roads in weather like that.

07-coffee3 Interesting..a whole season has taken place and UT's offensive scheme is now centered around something new.
Were they holding back on a new weapon?
