Musburger/Palmer lead SEC Network
Looks like the speculation was true... Brent Musburger and Jesse Palmer are the lead football announcers for the SEC Network

http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-releas...unce-team/

For an upstart network, I think this is a pretty good lineup. Sure, Musburger is not on his game as much as a decade ago, but neither is Verne. SEC fans don't need someone to be on top of things, though, since most viewers could watch a game in silence and still keep up with what is happening just fine. We need an SEC homer who stays out of the way and tells a good story or two. I am glad to see Jesse Palmer over David Pollack for this assignment. I think he is stronger in the booth. It appears they are keeping Pollack as the heir apparent to Herbstreit if he ever changes roles on GameDay.

Not a big Brent fan but I agree that it's a pretty nice level of talent for a brand new network.

Hah! Musburger only took the job to be closer to A.J.'s girl. As to Palmer vs Pollock I lean toward Pollack but like them both just fine. Palmer needs someone to tailor his suit coats though. He always wears the ones that are too tight in the upper sleeve and pucker at the button. That's a TV no no that ESPN should have already addressed. Palmer is more comfortable in the booth and takes a much broader national view of things, but Pollock is kind of like Madden and Barkley in that he doesn't always consider the P.C. aspect before he blurts out the truth. I kinda like that about all 3 of those guys I mentioned as it's refreshing as compared to those who deliver the same bland talking points.

But I think BBB is nailing the more important part. The SECN has been taken seriously enough to put top talent into the booth. Add to that the fact that Finebaum and Tim Brando will be doing work for the SECN and I think people should begin to realize this will be a much more 24/7 oriented approach than the format for the BTN. SECN is even expecting to have a news program that reaches beyond sports. So with live daily broadcasts and talk shows, news, and sports you are really getting a guys channel. I'm excited about the prospects.

Good point, a "SEC Sports Center" type news program that covers all the days highlights and news would be huge with the fanbases.

It's an ESPN product, so you know it will be first class.

I really don't like Musburger at all, but I agree that even if he's on the back side of his career, it is definitely an indication of the appeal of the fledgling network to get someone of his status.

Just confirmed today by ESPN that Chris Fowler will be with Herbstreit, and they will both continue to do GameDay. I'm betting that this ensures that GameDay will always be at the location where the Saturday night ABC game is being held. That pretty much sticks to their pattern except when the SEC afternoon game on CBS was the premier game that week. When that happened, they would just fly Herbstreit to the location. Now that the SECN has their own GameDay, they will probably send that crew to the premier SEC game if needed. That crew will have more flexibility and definitely less travel issues that the the flagship ESPN crew.

Yes, I think it is a good first hire. Musburger signed a 3 year deal, which gives them time to hash out the heir apparent. My money is on Joe Tessitore, and that would be outstanding. If the network really takes off, we may see Brad Nessler take that role since he is already the lead for SEC basketball coverage. I would be very happy with Tessitore or Nessler long term, and we'll see how Jesse Palmer pans out.

I'm betting that Tim Brando gets one of the other three games, also. I also hope the SECN can pluck away either Tony Barnhardt from CBS or Andy Staples from SI. Both would be good insiders to report on league happenings, similar to Brett McMurphy's current role at the flagship. Both are really good and entertaining listens on the radio, and Barnhart is also good on TV. I haven't seen Staples on TV, but I think he could transition pretty easily for a "hometown" audience. Staples could even be a decent color analyst over time; he is a former UF football player.

I'm all about Barnhardt and the sports talk and review show on CSS "Talking Football" is one of the best ACC/SEC shows out there. I would love to see the ACC/SEC share the cost of acquiring that program for the Network(s).

Again ESPN did not RUSH this product to market, but took their time to develop a first class network.
If ESPN is not successful with their new contract with the B1G, they are going to NEED lots of quality inventory to compete with FOX and the B1G.

Here's hoping! It would be a win win for the SEC and ACC if FOX landed more of the Big 10.

I'm sure this was in Skippers mind.
If ESPN can place a first class product out in the marketplace for the SEC and the threat of another with the ACC, then it just might soften the B1G position on contract negotiations. If ESPN is willing to place some "big guns" on the SEC broadcasts it's just saying to the B1G...........GAME ON!

He's getting to be an old man and this set up will involve a lot less travel for him. I think he thought about that with this decision, as well as a chance to be a part of something new...

Looks like they just hired Greg McElroy as a football analyst. I'm looking forward to seeing who comes on board for basketball. Jimmy Dykes is the only person I have a feeling is a shoe-in.
