Random stats that probably don't mean a lot.
I was looking at the Antonio Barton thread and noted that UTk lost eight of their 11 games when AB didn't make a three and wondered if any Memphis players had any singular statistical correlation/causation like that one.

Chris:
Tigers are 11-6 when he plays 30+ mpg, 11-2 when he plays less.
Tigers are 12-2 when CC scores in double figures, 11-6 in single digit scoring games.
Tigers 12-3 when CC makes three or more threes, 11-5 when he makes 2 or fewer.

Joe:
Tigers 12-7 when he plays 30+ mins, 11-1 when he plays under 30. (hmm).
Tigers 16-4 when Joe has 4+ assists, 7-4 when 3 or fewer.
Tigers 12-4 when Joe makes 0 threes, 6-0 when he makes 2+ threes but 5-4 when he makes one.
Tigers are 20-3 when Joe takes 12 shots or fewer, 3-5 when he takes more than 12 shots.

Dixon:
Tigers 18-2 when he attempts fewer than five threes, 5-6 when he attempts more than five three pointers.
Tigers are 6-6 when he takes 10+ shots, 17-2 when he takes fewer than 10 shots.
Tigers are 6-4 when Dixon plays more than 25 mins a game, 17-4 when he plays 25 mins or less.
Tigers are 11-2 when Dixon has 3+ assists in a game, 12-6 when he has 2 or fewer.

Geron:
Tigers are 7-2 when he plays 30+ mpg.
Tigers 5-5 when he takes 10+ shots per game, 18-3 when he takes fewer than 10.
Tigers 13-1 when he takes 0 or 1 threes, 10-7 when he takes 2 or more threes.
Tigers are 6-5 when Geron has 5 or MORE assists, 17-3 when he has fewer than 5 assists.
Tigers are 13-2 when Geron has fewer than 3 turnovers, 10-6 when he has 3 or more.

Shaq:
Tigers are 8-6 when he plays 30+ mpg, 15-2 when he plays fewer.
Tigers 17-3 when Shaq scores in double figures, 6-5 when he doesn't.
Tigers 13-2 when Shaq gets more than 2 offensive rebounds, 10-6 when he gets 2 or fewer.
Tigers are 17-3 when Shaq takes 6 or more shots, 6-5 when he takes fewer.

Austin:
Tigers 6-0 when Austin plays more than 30 minutes. 8-2 when he plays 20-29 mins. 9-5 when he plays fewer than 20.
Tigers 11-1 when AN gets 5+ rebounds in a game, 12-7 when 4 or less.
Tigers 18-3 when AN takes more than 6 shots, 5-5 when he takes 5 or fewer.

RE: Random stats that probably don't mean a lot.
The reason why we have a better record when Joe plays under 30 min per game is because those were teams we were beating easily therefore we didn't need him to play over 30. We needed him for more than 30 when we played the better teams.

Make no mistake. Joe is the best player on this team. We need his contributions more than any other player on the team if we want to make a significant run in the tourney.

It can be a little deceptive on King as well. He has double-digit minutes in 10 games that were blowouts, 11 if you count the 1st OSU game although a different blowout. Still glad to see him getting double-digit minutes in games that matter now.

This makes sense. When we have a size advantage and work the ball inside for high percentage shots we win. Assist numbers are up and perimeter shots are down.

The trouble comes against teams that play tough physical interior defense. Working the ball inside gets harder and outside shots are easier to take (see Cincy, they basically invited us to shoot the 3).

I can't remember any games recently, if any that we were beating teams easily..

I disagree. I don't think Joseph is the best or most important player on the team. This is a subjective argument for sure. We can throw stats back and forth at each other, but it will still be subjective.

I would argue that Geron and Austin are the best and most important players on this team. If those two get hot in the tournament, Memphis will be a tough out.

Synopsis-

Team fares better when:
- 4Kings don't jack 3s galore or settle for 3s
- 4Kings don't play majority of the mins
- Bigs are involved
- King gets burn

These are all points I and a handful of others have been preaching for quite some while. I guess now it makes since to the masses... Ok I guess.

Congrats on pointing out the obvious things that everyone agrees on. No one has ever argued for the team to Jack up more awful shots.

Many posters will dog you because they don't like you. But I think you're right about this. As much credit as everyone wants to give the 4Kings and JJ in particular, the team is better when the bigs lead the charge and the guards can feed off them - not the other way around.

JJ is best when he's in a supporting role. He's not built to be Batman. He's built to be Robin. As is Dixon. And as is Crawford.
