Tomorrow morning as I'm white-knuckle commuting through 6+ inches of new sloppy snow, over moon-crater potholed roads a mere 20 miles north of a joke punchline known the world over (Detroit), I'll think of those maps to help me feel better.

They act as if poverty in the South was a recent development.

Your "concerns" are addressed here:

Minimum wage hike and Obamacare will save us....this seems to be the point of that.

Arkansas had a one-party system stranglehold for 150 years. That is plenty of time to see results.

Funny, I've lived in the South my whole life and none of the issues in those maps have ever effected me.

I've never been in poverty, I've always had affordable health insurance, I'm not obese, I don't smoke, I didn't have a kid when I was 16, I've got a great job and I'm happy.

Oh and they left three maps off this list. The women are hotter in the South, the weather is better in the South and the cost of living is actually reasonable in the South.

Should be a map to track northern migration upon retirement. If things are so bad, why the heck so many folks come here?

They don't outrage me as none of them apply to me or most of the people I know.

If the south is so bad then maybe we should be kicked out of the US. I'm sure the northerners would be happy with that, and I don't know of many southerners that would object either.

Must agree with the first, since I married one and the second (when you remove humidity).

As to the third, that's what the liberal idiots who made a Southern hit piece forgot to look at. So, people in the South are more likely eat fried foods and smoke (both black and white people). But, the cost of living is very affordable. There are many places in the South where $100K will get you very nice large house, whereas in NYC, that will get you a walk-in closet with a kitchen for 3-4 years. When we moved from NC to DC, we moved into a place with 1/3 the sq footage for 2 1/2 times the price.

Plus, when I lived in the South, doctors were affordable and you could pay for them when you needed and supplement that with catastrophic care insurance -- that thing health care insurance really should be. I do like how you state's health care situation on the maps were dependent upon whether your state decided to bankrupt itself with Obamacare.
