(03-12-2014 11:18 PM)Swearingen20 Wrote:  The crowds tonight were double (maybe even triple) what Houston gets at most of their home games!!!! If you looked at the crowd tonight, a lot of the fans at the game were wearing Memphis gear. Where were all of the fans from UCONN, Cincy and Louisville??? Do they not support their team and conference by not going to they early games? They do, BUTTTTT they were ALL on Beale Street enjoying some good BBQ and great drinks while the kids played in the first round tonight. Tomorrow the big boys come out to play and the Forum will have GREAT crowds all day. The fans of Memphis, Louisville, UCONN and Cincy normally save their vacation days for the NCAA tourney. I know most (not all) of the bottom 5 schools from our conference don't know much about games after this weekend.

Houston hasn't been mentioned as a possible host, has it? I haven't seen them mentioned. So comparing to them is just dumb!

Now, just because 15 blue haired Memphis fans show up for the second game - doesn't mean the 17,000+ fanbase has supported the tourney they haven't.

There are other places that support the conference better, those of us watching on tv saw it with the turnouts for the American Women's Tournament. May be the reality is the conference needs a 10,000 seat arena instead of an NBA sized facility so that even when its not full it looks a lot better than just a sea of empty seats.

I've been to the old Big East Tourney 17 years and to the ACC Tourney 4 years... may be I expect more out of a major conference Tourney than most of you do coming from the CUSA.

Despite that high expectation, I've been to several lower level America East Tourneys when they were in Binghamton last decade and the locals set then tourney attendance records of support and all the game sessions had decent crowds despite being one of the outlying schools in the conference that fans didn't travel well to. Even the AE made it an event and people supported it -- nothing I've seen on TV even makes me feel Memphis is making this an event for fans to want to come visit or turnout for!

Actually I saw an Aresco quote tweeted yesterday saying that Memphis leads for 2015.

RE: Any info on where next year's tournament will be?
In CUSA, the few times it wasn't in Memphis, it was only semi-respectable because Tiger fans travel well for hoops tournies.

Where are your schools fans this year, or any year for that matter? Ridiculous to expect basketball savvy Memphis fans to show up and cheer for the bottom teams. Teams that average 5k and under?

I find it a little silly that these teams somehow "deserve" any kind of post season tourney anyway.

But hey let's add more teams, and get that 20 game schedule right away.03-phew

Okay so I'm watching... still less people than the highlights of the CUSA tourney in El Paso.

So the basketball crazy Memphis fans still haven't shown up and this game features a top 25 program - so what's the excuse now?

There was a larger crowd for the Charlotte game at the CUSA tourney than any game yesterday in Memphis. I'm not naive enough to claim the CUSA is a better conference cause it is not, that is why the crowds at this tournament is such a disappointment to see.

Anyone who believes those numbers are reading their box scores in braille and couldn't see how empty and BAD the FedEX looked on television! If there was 2,000 people there they were lucky... the upper levels were curtained off and the lower levels were sections with just a handful of people each.

I'm sure that number is tickets sold, which just reaffirms what everyone not from Memphis is saying -- Memphis fans bought all-tourney passes and are only supporting the Memphis games.

Those are the official numbers...

If Memphis fans choose to show their support with $$$ and selling out Memphis games...that will simply have to do.

That's not how traditional successful host cities do it... you're not the ONLY brand name in your conference anymore and that type of lack of interest and bad looking tv imaging isn't what a bigger profile conference wants from a long term host.

After a decade of ****** teams crying about it, and pu$$y votes to move it from Memphis out of spite for changing leagues. I really just don't care.

Put it anywhere, but there's no other city in the AAC that could do a better
job.

Who says we want it long term? Who says the AAC is a "traditional" conference?

Again, if the AAC makes good money...and the big games sell-out...that will have to do and is more than CUSA can claim.

I made a nice donation in January to the UNCC alumni association - went to the home games - not the worst ever, sorry! Now, I grew up near Syracuse and was a season ticket holder with my family in the 90's... I have degrees from several schools over the last 15 years including UNC two years ago, and UNC Charlotte last year... So I'm supporting 'Cuse and UNC, or two of my three teams still playing! Spare me if I can't be in multiple places at once!

The American games ARE ALL BIG GAMES... because they're all broadcast Nationally and creating a narrative for the conference. Not even the SEC, Big 12, and PAC 12 had all their games covered, they had some games on ESPN 3 and conference networks.

I guess I care more about the reputation and image of the conference than those who are in it... empty seats give the perception or impression of small time!

And Memphis fans made "donations" to our new conference by purchasing all-session tickets...and showing up in droves for Memphis games. 07-coffee3

Big man, we get it. You're a Charlotte fan. It's hard. And the easy thing to do is hate on a program that is light years ahead of yours. When C-USA 1.0 broke up, Memphis went on to do great things and become a national program once again. Charlotte, well, nobody knows what happened to Charlotte. Most couldn't even tell you what conference Charlotte went to. Most couldn't tell you what Charlotte's mascot is. Most have never heard of Charlotte. And we've done the whole C-USA tournament in El Paso. And the only time people showed up was when Memphis played. So you're not going to convince anyone the crowd in El Paso was good. You obviously have an agenda against Memphis because you repeatedly keep attacking our program. In the college sports dictionary, the word would be "butthurt." And btw, when the games this afternoon and tonight start, and there is great support from the locals here. And the games tomorrow have great local support. And the title game has great support whether it involves Memphis or not, are you going to try to say that all of the fans there are the fans of the teams playing and not locals? When this tournament was announced it would be here, we said the meaningless games wouldn't have huge support. Heck, they wouldn't anywhere. But the games involving Louisville, Uconn, Memphis, and Cincinnati would get great support. And that's what is going to happen. The meaningless ACC games yesterday had tiny crowds compared to what the games involving Duke, UNC, etc will have. Do you attack Greensboro locals for that? No you don't because you don't have angst against Greensboro like you do Memphis. Did you happen to catch the opening SEC tourney games? Place was empty.

I have no doubt Memphis is a great city to host the tourney. I just don't want Memphis to have home court advantage every year and would like it within driving distance for UConn once in a while. In CUSA, Memphis was always favored, home court or not. In this league there will be several good programs each year including Memphis and it doesn't seem fair that you would have it at your place every year.

Also, it's a good event for the local economy and allows a city to showcase itself. I want Hartford to get that chance too.
