Did you watch the ACC games today? there was literally 20 people cheering for Virginia Tech - they didn't even take there band. Miami had a couple rows of fans but took their band and spirit squads... the rest of the people were fans wearing Wake or UNC shirts just there to support the tourney and watch BASKETBALL!
Memphis has curtained off the top deck too... now, I expect the crowds to be big during sessions including Memphis... but this isn't the Memphis Tigers invitational, it's a conference tourney... Host cities are suppose to support tourneys all games... Do you think those 5-8000 crowds for all the women's games were fans visiting from other schools? I don't think so - those were local and UConn fans (50 miles from metro Hartford) supporting all the games for the love of basketball.

Big man, you're not getting what I'm saying. Those UNC and Wake fans that filled Greensboro Colliseum are.........off work. They travelled to Greensboro for this tournament. Go back and read the part I added to my last post. You'll get it btw, I'm here at FedEx Forum. If you're here, come sit by me and we can talk about it. I'll even buy you a beer! Just for reference, the lower and middle sections combined here is 10,000 seats. So if you're here, make an estimation on how many people during the second game. Guarantee it will be over 5,000 because we will be.....off work

I'm getting it -- Memphis fans are LAZY and cheap! The one's that buy all tourney passes do so just for seats to the Memphis games and won't get out early for an event that happens once a year - OR - they're too cheap to buy tickets to anything but the Memphis sessions.
Most of those Wake and UNC fans are commuting to the games and taking half days etc... I'm taking Friday afternoon off to go to some games. I don't understand why taking some time to go to a big event near by is such a surprising concept! Workers in business suits take a couple hours from work in NYC to catch a game of the Big East tourney.

Those businessmen go watch Rutgers vs USF? I don't think so! Like I said, tomorrow, friday, and Saturday will be great crowds all day

It's hard to blame Memphis fans for not going but I think it would have been a huge statement to support tonight's game in big numbers... Missed opportunity

There's another game tonight in Temple and UCF. A total snoozer. If there is great Memphis support, then the statement will be made.

I assume what is in there now will be what is there tonight. We all know the crowd will be there tomorrow but junk games are where you see if a crowd is going to show up for anything.
Dayton got to keep the NCAA play in games because they packed it for 2 schools no one has ever heard of, tonight was Memphis's chance to do that but I think they didn't capitalize on it

If they were happy hour and evening games like these American ones... YES they would have... there is a whole production of the tourney event for fans going on with spot lights during breaks and a growling announcer in house at the Garden to make it a fun event - even though its presently just the LAME Butler vs Seton Hall game...

If you want to host yearly you have to pack the place for all games... If you are just going to pack it for your own games then we could have it anywhere.

RE: Any info on where next year's tournament will be?
Since the women's tournament was brought up, I'll add this:
I live about an hour away from Mohegan Sun Arena, where the AAC women's tournament was held - Mohegan Sun is located on Native American land in one of the least populated parts of the state. The Friday games were 8 Cincinnati vs 9 UCF (6 PM) and 7 Memphis vs 10 Houston (8 PM). I took a half day on Friday and attended both, as well as every other game in the tournament. The vast majority of fans at EVERY game (including that first day) were UCONN fans. This is why I think Connecticut will retain the women's AAC tournament in the foreseeable future:
"Danielle Donehew, associate commissioner of the AAC for women’s basketball, said Sunday that the Mohegan Sun has been getting rave reviews from AAC athletic directors and senior women’s administrators in attendance. “In fact, I think they [Mohegan Sun] should think about having a holiday tournament [for the women] here,” Stringer said. “I think it would go over well.” What that means, of course, is the AAC seems likely to pick up its option and return to the facility for the 2015 tournament. The decision will be voted up on the AAC meetings in Miami Beach in late May."
I think local fan support throughout the entire tournament should be an important aspect in determining future sites of conference tournaments. I'm hoping that more college basketball fans will show up for the Temple/UCF game tonight...

Also I'm not trying to dis Memphis, 99.9% of cities would have poor support for these teams, but this is about separating yourself as the go to spot. After tonight's attendance I don't see Memphis as a yearly thing, I think the rotation with Memphis in it is more appropriate.

Haha I'm talking us Tiger fans that go to games, etc. Not the natives haha
There were daytime games in Greensboro with more people at lunch than you're delivering after dinner.
Yay! Forgive us for not caring about a team leaving the conference in Rutgers.

God their fan support is horrible. But lets not say that "Memphis fans" are working. IF Memphis were playing there would be 15,000 there. And if we were playing in Louisville there would be 5,000. These fans simply don't support their teams.
