He made it quite clear that this is where he wants to be...as he has said repeatedly every year. UC will get this done. They have a new revenue stream from the Big East split and replacing Mick on the open market would likely cost almost as much as retaining him on a long term contract.
This right here.
The annual freak out of Mick leaving is happening early this year and it's always started by someone in the media...someone "in the know". I didn't hear the show so I don't know the context of what was said, but if Broo was implying that he had information that things aren't happening and that the UC admin was dropping the ball, he's nothing but a jive turkey. First of all, anyone with loose lips who are privy to the negotiations should be canned. Having someone talking to the media out of turn while talks are going on isn't good for either side. That's why I really doubt Broo knows anything more than we do.
Second, Cronin has stated multiple times that he's not going anywhere and that he tells his agent to say as much when he's contacted. Of course they'll listen to the other schools, who wouldn't? To say that any of this is sign that Mick is leaving is complete junk. It's everyday business and not a reason to think it's a sign.
Third, the AD is brand new at Cincinnati! If Whit didn't jump ship when he did, I'm willing to bet this would be done. Let the AD get his feet wet and learn the people he's in charge of before he commits to someone (Cronin) who he's only known for a few weeks.
Also, a whole lot has been made about the private jet. If I remember correctly, Cronin stated that Pitino has one at his disposal as do other coaches. That's great for them. I can guarantee you that UC isn't BUYING a jet for the athletic department. That's not how these jets work. They're owned by boosters and corporations who in turn let the Coach use them. P&G have a couple as do another prominent Cincinnati family who also own two. (as far as UC supporters go) That's it! Slick Rick probably has a ton of rich, horse owning guys who own 'em and let Ricky use them whenever they're available, not whenever he wants. Now if UC wanted to spend some money to lease one with other parties, then that makes more sense, but it's basically a timeshare type thing.
This deal will get done. No doubt in my mind. It's going to be a BIG deal, give it time.
