RE: Interesting Article on DePaul- Crains
A complete and total joke. The state is beyond broke and they come up with this. DePaul does not have citywide appeal, and anyone wanting to go from the DePaul campus to the new arena will have to transfer and still walk several blocks. A new arena may draw fans for one year, tops. Then it look like Rynearson Stadium on a weeknight November game.

RE: Interesting Article on DePaul- Crains
DePaul would draw at Rosemont if they put a halfway decent team on the floor. The Wolves drew 8K a game there(over 38 games) for a team that didn't make the AHL playoffs.
Jeez they don't have to play Pitt, Syracuse, ND, Cinn or UConn anymore; which eliminates several automatic losses from their schedule!
Moving their current "collection of talent" from Allstate to a downtown arena won't make them any better or more relevant.

Hey when I was a kid and it was Aguirre, Cummings, and even David Booth. They would pack what was then the Rosemont Horizon. That was the basketball team in Chicago as the Bulls had little following at the time on WGN tv and everything. Bottom line it doesn't matter where they play as long as the team is terrible they won't draw.

Anthony Davis was supposed to go there with a couple other Chicago guys. Would have really helped them going forward but that fell apart.

Was Quintin Richardson the last star from the Chicagoland area?

Wilson Chandler and Drake Deiner was the last time they were decent. Then Leiato left for Virginia (never did well there) and DePaul hasn't found a good replacement since.

Yep you got it. Terry Cummings was a heck of a talent also. The BE now is so watered down compared to what it was Pre conference blowup that DePaul has no excuse now for not being a winner in that league. Of course Illinois has no excuse for not winning in the B10, the Illinois based MVC programs have no excuse for not being better than Witchita State, Northern Iowa and Indiana State and UIC has no excuse not not winning the Horizon.
Could it be that either the Illinois HS talent has no interest in playing in state collegately or the instate talent is highly overrated and sucks to a large degree

These things tend to go in cycles. It's not that long ago that Illinois played in a national title game, Bradley made the Sweet 16, SIU made the Sweet 16, etc., all within a few years of each other.
DePaul has to be the largest underachiever, though, and it's not close; they've made the tournament twice in 20 years and their record in the Big East is unconscionably bad since they made the jump.

On another day with snow to shovel it seems longer ago than it is. That Illinois title game was 2005 which is also the last time they made it to the Sweet 16, Bradley's Sweet 16 appearance was 2006 and SIU's in 2007. IL ST hasn't won an NCAA Tourney game since 1998 and has never made a Sweet 16. Loyola last won a Tourney game and made the Sweet 16 in 1985, NIU, EIU & UIC have never won a tourney game and Northwestern, Chicago State and WIU have never got a bid.
I don't see any Illinois team making the Sweet 16 this year which will make it 7 straight without an Illinois hoops program making the Sweet 16, that is too long for that many programs to not have achieved that level of success.
