Latest ESPN Bracketology - AAC with some decent seeds
Louisville 4, Cincinnati 4, UConn 5, Memphis 7, SMU 9.
Why UConn moves up to a 5 seed after the 30 point beat down by Louisville --- is a good question.

Scooped by 9 minutes.

UConn is a 7 seed in other brackets that I have seen. The seeding assumes some tourney success. ESPN uses their own BPI calculations for seeding. UConn is 28th on the BPI hence the 5 seed.

I think Memphis is currently no worse than 7 seed. If we beat UConn Thursday, we a 6 seed. Beat Cincy a 5. Win tourney a 4. Basically move up a line with each win.

I'd LOVE to end up at 6 again actually with someone like Creighton as the 3.

Who knows, but we will know this time next week and start talking matchups. Can't wait!

If we meet them in a first round matchup...well, I could see why the Selection Committee would be interested in that.

Why do you guys keep citing ESPN Lunardi? They are terrible on seeding year after year for the most part except for the top couple of seeds.

After looking at the seeds ahead of us, I'm not sure we can move up a line with every win this week.

5 may be our ceiling. The teams that are seeded 6 in that bracket all have considerably more top 100 wins than we do.

Two things: Lunardi uses his own S-curve for seeding-not BPI.

If Tigers win vs #21, 12 and 5 ranked teams in country (which would be very hard) they would definitely be higher than a 5 seed. 3 or high 4.

You have to remember that approx half of the teams ahead of us will lose this week.

I hope you're right. I just see that big gaping hole in our resume in the 51-150 range as something with which the committee could take issue.

I'd really rather be a 6 anyway. ha

3 is same bracket as 6 but better obviously. Very hard to get there too. Enough top 50 wins might do it though.

RE: Latest ESPN Bracketology - AAC with some decent seeds
ESPN Bracketology uses what they call the "nitty gritty" report
available to people who are ESPN insider subscribers in which
they state "they have replicated a tool the committee uses to compare groups of teams and our bracketologists use each week to project the field."
Memphis is the final 7 seed along with KY , UMASS , New Mexico

UConn is top 5 seed in this report w/Mich St, ST Louis , Okla
[/b]
Lunardi follows this for his bracket straight down the line

Havent heard anyone mention of Memphis being disqualified from their bracket. With only three of each seed available it could bump them.

I'd take the projected seed UT has as a play-in than our seed as a 7.

Let's also face it ... we screwed up scheduling our buy games.

Siena, Nicholls St, Northwestern St, LO, Jackson St, etc ... just horrid. We could've scheduled much higher and still beatable teams and had a dramatic positive impact on our RPI calculation.

LO actually helps us, probably. The RPI scheduling game is a hoax though. Hopefully more teams refrain from the Calipari/Pearl/MWC RPI pandering so the committe can do away with it all together sooner rather than later.

RE: Latest ESPN Bracketology - AAC with some decent seeds
The good news for us is that after the 4 line, teams are losing so much and seeds are up for grabs.

That said, I think our absolute ceiling is a 4 seed. We did finish the season 5th in our conference, so it is just hard to justify getting anything higher. A 4 would even be unlikely. If we win the conference I think we get a 5 seed. Without looking at the bracketology, there is no way we are going to overcome the following profiles:

1) Florida
Wichita St
Arizona
Villanova

2) Wisconsin
Kansas
Michigan
Syracuse

3) Virginia
Duke
Iowa State
Creighton

4) San Diego State
Cincinatti
Oklahoma
******* (maybe here)

Other teams I just don't see the committee putting below us:

Michigan State
North Carolina
UCLA
perhaps Louisville (based on tying for 1st in conference)
Texas

That would give us around a low 5 at best if we won the tournament. if the bottom teams on the above list lose early in the conference tourney obviously it helps our chances.
