Hard to argue with any of those. I particularly like Shabazz Napier, he is a phenomenal player. Every time I have seen him play I have tried to compare him to someone and the closest I can get to him is Nick VanExel. Does anybody else have a thought? I also think Shabazz should get the "Best Name of the Year" as well.

I am not getting the Larry Brown love...I think SMU was picked to finish 5th in the conference. Not like they tore up the conference. Outside of Moody, they were not great. If he wins it, it is because of hype heading into what he is building already.

We were picked 6th in preseason

5th...6th...finished in a 3 way tie rounding out the top 5. Not like you guys finished way higher than expected. And a team that laid eggs pretty regularly on the road.

And we did that despite having only two seniors on the roster.

Who would you name coach of the year?

Cronin deserves consideration for Cincy's unexpected surge to the top of the conference.

Agreed, but he had a senior-laden team and a first-team All-American

It's between Larry and Cronin. I think Cronin would have a better chance if UC won the conference outright. I also think SMU's rise was more surprising than UC's surge (maybe it's just because I expect UC to be a tough competitor every year). 04-cheers

Giving the player of the year award to Shabazz is a joke. Wasn't he fighting with his teammates all of last week? He is a very good player but SK and Russ Smith led their team to a first place tie.

The joke is that you keep posting that Shabazz being in that top group is a joke...

I think Brown is a good choice, but Cronin gets my "vote" because he both exceeded expectations and achieved the highest result.

Due to having better/more experienced players.

If you've ever watched Cutthroat Kitchen, you will understand this: Mick is the guy that got to use most of the best ingredients to make the pasta, while Larry got to use great pasta noodles (good team foundation) but had to improvise with the sauce (great individual players) to pull the dish together. Mick made the better pasta, but Larry's performance indicates greater culinary skill.

Larry Brown. . . Simply cause most of the posters on this board (with perhaps the exception of the SMU fan base) didn't think SMU would be an NCAA Tournament team

The fact that we're having this discussion is indicative of the strength of the American basketball conference. 04-cheers

Be thankful we're not the SEC, the decisions would be easy - all Florida.

I glanced at the tennessee message board this morning, they are saying louisville is overrated and that Virginia>>>>>>>>>Louisville. Why do SEC fans embarrasse themselves?
