RE: Monty/Huskies Rising From The Ashes!
If you are truly such an NIU supporter 57, why can't you get excited about this team? To Suggest that this turn around was to be expected in year three belies logic. THis team has 8 scholarship players often one of them was hurt or sick. They're coming off four consecutive five-6 win seasons and they lost their arguably best player before the new year. And they went out and accomplished a 10+ win improvement which is an all-time huskie record. And yet you act like "ho-hum". I Just don't get it. I guess some people are just naturally cynical.

There are a good number of people that take pleasure with NIU basketball being down, this is an uncomfortable time for them seeing that good things are ahead next year.

Same people are happy that the convo is empty so they can get extra seats around them.

A big part of it is the whole football thing. Somehow they think that if people support basketball they wont go to football games as often. Its crazy to think like that and not sure why so many people see NIU basketball improving as a threat to football. Its just ridiculous.

Nobody thinks like that only you. There is nothing more that Huskie fans want is to be engaged with a sport after football season. When a program has been down for as long as ours, interest just wanes. That is just stupid

You got that right! At Saturday's game, it was so packed in my area that a nice young lady was almost sitting on top of me. It was most uncomfortable. I whispered up to an usher, but I guess he did not hear me. So, I had to spend the entire game with this young girl pressed up against me. I just could not enjoy the game! Athletics will hear from me on this one! (After I increase my HASF donation with a thank you card.)

I don't think people hate basketball success either. They're just incredibly jaded about a program that has had one decent season since Bill Clinton was president, which I can understand (though not sympathize with).

I see it more as a "I'll believe it when I see it, 'til then YOU SUCK!" type of thing.

NIU MBB coach Mark Montgomery comes in 2nd in MAC coach of the year voting. NIU squad plays in Cleveland today, and had a 10 win improvement. I guess I am not the only one paying attention to the turnaround happening at NIU!

Really? Toledo had 24/25 first place division votes in the preseason poll. They were the runaway favorites for the division and had 7 votes for winning the MAC tournament. WMU had zero division votes and zero tourney votes.

2015 recruits that I have seen: Connor Cashaw/Stevenson 6'4 wing. Glynn Watson 5'11 pg Westchester/St Joseph. Watson has offers from Purdue, Creighton, DePaul, Iowa, Penn St. WMU has two first team ALL-MAC guys. Just because Toledo was expected to be good doesn't mean there coach was undeserving. Also in 2011-2012, Kowalczyk took Toledo from 4-28 to 19-17 and didn't get a vote.

That's terrible and unbelievable.

I agree that the Toledo coach did a good job. Regardless, the WMU team outperformed expectations, which is basically what every single coach of the year award is all about. And that's ridiculous that he didn't receive a vote in 2012.

RE: Monty/Huskies Rising From The Ashes!
2012-2013, Toledo finished 10-6 tied with WMU for top spot in MAC West and Kowalczyk got one vote. This guy has resurrected Toledo's program from the toilet and is getting no love from the MAC. Wasn't Rod Carey coach of the year. I think the Huskies were thought of pretty highly.
