It should be VERY nice with those prices. Much needed in that area.

There you go. As stated, about $160 a night to rest my head for 8 hrs, have juice and a donut.

2 tickets to NIU football: $40 (or for 4 if you got a family)
5 hours of post game drinks at local establishments for 2 w/ tip: $60

2 late night burrittos at Burritoville w/ sour cream: $15
nice hotel to pass out in: $160

Funny thing is, it's old out. Says a lot about the limited accomadations in DeKalb.

And prices like this was one reason may got turned off by CU for State playoffs and UI football. Price and some requiring a 2 night stay.
Welcome to the big show!

Yeah the C-U Hotels are special. They pull the 2-night minimum crap for the Moms & Dads weekends also.

Anyone ever stay at the hotel in the student center? I'm going back for homecoming this year for the first time as an alum and I'm weighing my options.

I have stayed the past 2 years after football games. Its a "get what you pay for" situation. The have an alum rate of around $60. The rooms are small, TV's are old, beds small, but the rooms are clean. Rooms are better on the top floors. Only 1 ice machine, its on the 3rd floor. Parking is free behind the Student Center. Great view of campus from top rooms.

Visiting football teams do not stay in DeKalb because there is no hotel with the set-up to accommodate them. Just like our team, the biggest need isn't the number of rooms, it's a kitchen that can prepare meals and provide other amenities like a pool, workout room, Wi-Fi, etc. Various hotels in town usually can't meet the needs of a football traveling party without arrangements for an off-site dining option (meal the night before and at least breakfast the day of the game).

RE: Hotel now open
It is all about supply and demand for price points. There are a lot of people willing to pay $200 for a nice hotel. If not, you will see the price drop. Try getting a room in Urbana on football or parents weekend. Those rooms are booked a year ahead of time.

Just think about how much money is not spent in DeKalb on a midweek games. No hotel rooms booked, no dinner out, you drive in and drive out ASAP if you can make the game. For example, Fatty was half full at 6:00 for the basketball game on Monday night, and about 600 fans for a PLAYOFF game!

Welcome to the future big time. Just wait until NIU will start requiring big time donations or buying a seat license to purchase season tickets. The rich will survive but this will push out the loyal following that cannot afford a big time program. Careful what we wish for.

You almost never put the visiting team on, or near campus. And sometimes, not even use the same hotel week to week for fear of home team hoodlums pulling pranks. We stayed at the same hotel as the visitors a couple times in the 80's at U of I. Was way off compus, off 74, was like a Days Inn or Holiday Inn, and I can tell you they went to a room, to bed, woke up and to the stadium. Place was far from special.

C-U has put up a lot of hotels. Some were and are in shady areas, but you can still get an ok place around a 100 or less, especially further off campus or in Savoy. The hotels on and nearer to campus are the premium. DeKalb just doesn't have many options, other than what 2 nice hotels now, the Student Union, a couple smaller places and a drug lab.

Hell, booking a room in Fayetteville seems to even be a premium, unless you want to drive to the next town. Place is 100+ miles from civilization.

That price is based on the fact that there is nowhere else to stay

There must have been a crazy huge need for a descent DeKalb hotel if this thread is already at three pages.

I travel a lot for work and almost always stay at Hilton branded hotels. Hampton is a Hilton branded hotel. Hampton's are usually not my first choice if there is another Hilton brand hotel nearby. Hampton's range from very nice to just OK. The newer hotels seem to be very nice along with those that have been recently renovated. The price seems inline for an event weekend.

We have enough people that we have an entire floor reserved every year for homecoming at Holmes SC. I like staying there, price is good, microfridge in each room. Only problem I have is that the mattresses are not comfortable for me at all. So I am bringing my own egg crate mattress topper this year. Yes I am getting 03-old

If you're the only decent hotel around you can certainly charge whatever you want.

I had a funeral to attend in Valpo that fell the same weekend as VU graduation - couldn't find a hotel for less than $190. In the end, it was well worth the money because I did not want to stay with my extended redneck family

Technically, that is not true. There are those little cards on the back if the door which state the maximum rate they can charge by law. But point is understood. 03-wink

FYI, always Merrilville and Michigan City if you ever need to go there again. The casinos have to be cheaper too. I luckily have a friend who I used to work with to stay at when in Valpo . Only a little rednecky...originally from St. John, but not quite Cedar Tucky (Lake).03-shhhh

My family hails from the great towns of Kouts & Star City. They'd be great for Maury, Jerry Springer, Teen Mom & Hoarders. High-class citizens!
I should start thanking my parents every day for moving me out of that place when I was six. I'd probably have 4 children by now or warrants out for my arrest for not paying child support

WOW our 3 Saturday home games already have the hotel sold out.

I wonder if the visiting MAC team will be staying there?

Crap, I waited too long, was hoping to stay there the weekend of the Miami game

You could possibly find something in Sycamore. Relatively close & probably better prices. When my son graduated in 2003, we stayed at a Microtel. It was brand new then and worked out just fine. We have also stayed in Rochelle. It's only 10 min. or a little further.

I would give them a call. Maybe they are just sold out online?

OR like someone suggested maybe athletics blocked the rooms...maybe if you are a donor you can still get one.

If all that doesn't work and you don't mind driving 30 min after the game the Hampton Inn and Suites on Orchard Rd just off 88 is nice.
