TourneyWeek: CMU
The Toledo game which was good television for the first half is over. As EagleSam has noted, it really wasn't important. Kind of like the 16th game of the season for a playoff bound NFL team. It had no effect on seedings.
As I remember it (or think it happened), GB III rolled his ankle early in the game and never returned.
That, to me, is critical: Will he be 100% tomorrow. I'm not assuming anything now - positive or negative - simply IDK (I Don't Know).
That is a story worth following.
And having a womens/mens tourney doubleheader has got to be a treat for any EMU fan.

Dear Friends,
It's difficult to beat a team three times in a season. I don't want to sound pessimistic because I think Eastern is much better than Central, and we should win on Monday. We also have the game at home, so that should also be on our side. I think the score should be like the previous two, and Eastern should win by 15.

Yep. It's always hard to beat a team three times in a year, I agree with you Ken. But that CMU team is just over matched by about every team in the conference. They're just BAD.
Hopefully Bryant doesn't even have to play Monday, and we can use about 10 or 11 kids in total. We need all the rest we can get if we plan on finding a way to get to the rubber match game between us and Toledo and after that hopefully compete for a tournament championship.

RE: TourneyWeek: CMU
We're 12 1/2 point favorites to win tonight.
One basketball analyst, Ken Pomeroy, has us 90+ % tonight. (that is posted on the main MAC board).
I have never researched it, but double digit favorite teams problem probably lose less than 10% of the time.
Having CMU at the Convo and 50 degree (?) temps outside = a good night for more than one reason...
The spring like weather should help the crowd, as well as the women's lead in game.

Yes if, how many games have we lost this season that we should have won? I rest my use of if.

We've lost to "giant killers" (e.g., NIU and Miami).
CMU should not be compared to those two teams.

I'm not sure about your first sentence...
It, obviously, depends how evenly matched the two teams are.
In MLB, the Tigers and Red Sox are presumably evenly matched and the chance of the Tigers sweeping a 3-game series is 1/8 (math is: 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2). Ditto for the Red Sox.
Getting back to tonight's game, the probably of a 10 (conference) win team vs. a 3 (conference) win team ESP @ HOME is hardly a 50 - 50 proposition.
Some would give us say a 90% chance of winning tonight.
Now, the winner of our game vs. NIU's game on a neutral court is more of a 60/40 proposition.

You forgot the games with Akron and Ohio U where we let the game slip away in the closing minutes. We never know which EMU team will show up the one that blew away Toledo or the one that lost to Miami (O).

How did Akron and Ohio get into the same sentence as CMU?
Should we have beaten Akron and Ohio? Are we 'demonstrably' superior to those teams?
If one wants to get more specific, we haven't lost to a team of CMU or BSU's caliber this season.

To answer your questions yes we should have won one of the Akron games and one of the Ohio U games. Its about having the game in hand and blowing it in the final four minutes. I'm not taking CMU for granted and stand by my statement which EMU team is going to show up for the tournament? The one that beat Toledo and WMU at home or the one that finds way to lose games they should have won?

You and I are going to have to agree to disagree.
I still maintain the proper analogy is CMU and BSU, esp. at home, and NOT NIU and MIA on the road.

Quite frankly, folks, I'm most worried about GB III.
Even though we are a deep team, GB III is a senior and this is tourney time.
We should be able to beat Central with/without him, but come Wednesday we need him.

Agreed. Hopefully it was just a minor tweak, and he's feeling 100% already. But as much as I'd like to see him throw down in one more game at home, I'd rather him rest up if his ankle isn't feeling ready.

I think it is more than a 'minor tweak'...
