State of Tennessee's dancing shoes
First, did anyone see this coming? EKU beats Belmont in the OVC by half-a-dozen for tournament bid!

http://www.ncaa.com/game/basketball-men/...ky-belmont

So, who is left that might possibly represent our state in the NCAA's? I think Memphis might . . . unfortunately, I've always considered Memphis to be a rogue city of Arkansas. MTSU is pretty good (I think), but I've not kept up. Buccaneerlover might know since he's out that way. Vanderbilt is down (and out) this year. The Vols seem to be picking-up speed . . . but is it too little, too late?

Side note:
Wouldn't it be wild if the Bucs end up playing Belmont in the CIT, NIT, etc.?

Tennessee should be in, Memphis is in solid and probably a sweet 16. Middle should be in as they've been stout again.

Belmont has been punching above their weight all year: short on athleticism, having lost star guards Ian Clark and Kerron Johnson and best big man Trevor Noack. Rick Byrd adjusted as always, sticking to an uncharacteristically short rotation and figuring a way to make things work.

But Belmont struggled with a good EKU team (24-9, taking VCU to overtime at their place). Belmont split the regular season, getting thumped solidly on the road 75-63, while eking out a home win, 84-81, Losing again to EKU was an upset, but not a big one.

Belmont would be a fantastic matchup - and a very tough one. But having been tops in the OVC, don't they get an NIT bid???

Belmont probably gets an NIT bid. MTSU, if they dont win the C-USA tourney, probably wont receive an at-large bid to the Big Dance, but an NIT bid as well.

I liike to refer to this page to get an idea of what teams are being considered for an at-large and automatic bid.

Yes, Belmont gets the NIT. I couldn't be happier. They're like Elon fans in that Elon thinks they're as good as Furman but they're really not. Belmont kinda has that "we're just as good as Vandy" because they're a couple of blocks away from each other.
They're really not, except for music. And Rick Byrd is a really nice guy, they're fans are just idiots.

Middle Tennessee, regular season co-champion with three other teams (latech, tulsa, and southern miss) with an RPI of 61 or so, has to win the C-USA tourney for any chance at the NCAA. I would think, if MT has it's customary early exit from its conference tourney, there's a chance for the NIT, but then I'd expect MT to get sent on the road to play some craptastic $ec team for the first round, just like in 2012, when the Raiders got sent to ut-k (and won).

We may have a few fans that are idiots, but I haven't heard any of our fans think we were better than Vandy. I think you are basing a judgment of all Belmont fans on a select few.

RE: State of Tennessee's dancing shoes
I know it's not all of you, but here recently I've heard ridiculousness around here from Belmont people. I do wish ETSU/Belmont would renew the series though, I've said it before for us a weekend double for the Bucs would be good for fan travel. Destination city, good long weekend deal as long as they don't bother with TSU. That gym looks like a hellhole.

Let me rephrase that, after Rick Byrd finally hangs it up.

For what it's worth, here's your common opponents from both schedules:

Lipscomb at Vanderbilt, Vanderbilt won by 11 (80-69)
Lipscomb at Belmont, Belmont won by 30 (94-64)
Kentucky at Vanderbilt, Kentucky won by 9 (71-62) . . . I guess Vanderbilt didn't play at Kentucky this year?
Belmont at Kentucky, Kentucky won by 13 (93-80)

RE: State of Tennessee's dancing shoes
Memphis will go. I don't think they'll go all that far, but they'll be in the tournament, no doubt. Even getting waxed by UConn last night can't keep them out.
Tennessee is a bubble team to me. If they lose to South Carolina this afternoon, they're either looking at a very low seed or an NIT berth.
Belmont is in the NIT.
With MTSU's RPI (virtually identical to Belmont's), they will probably be an NIT team unless they win the C-USA tournament.
Vanderbilt, Lipscomb, Martin, Austin Peay, TSU, and probably Tech will all be spectators the rest of the way.
