Agreed. One of my cousins just took a trip to that area, was actually in Malaysia in December. If it was a terrorist act, this just makes me shudder when I think about him.

Whatever happened, how horrific and sad.

I've got to believe there's a way to find it. I have a hard time understanding how an iPhone is easy to track, but a 777 isn't

I bet you won't find an iPhone lost in the middle of the ocean.

News reports are saying there was 2 men carrying stolen passports onboard. Also the plane took a course change without communication from the pilots.

This whole thing sounds like the start to a Tom Clancy novel.

I've got to believe the Chinese, Russians, and American militaries know what happened. They probably won't say publicly, but they've certainly got the technology to ascertain.

China is a major trade partner with all the state sponsors of terrorism. I can't imagine Al Queda being dumb enough to blow up a plane full of Chinese citizens.

Muslim separatists launched a major attack inside China week before last. They hate communists and communists hate them.

If there's a need for empathy, I can surely empathize with hundreds of anguished family members who cannot seem to get straight forward, credible information from a system which is more concerned with protecting their arses than disseminating information to the victims.

I talked to a few 777 Mechanics and a 777 pilot at church. None of them really believe this aircraft spontaneously disintegrated at 40,000 feet in calm weather.

What if it crashed into the ocean without breaking up first? Wouldn't be much debris, right?

On a B777 all you do is turn off the Transponders and the aircraft will disappear and will no longer be ID'd by air traffic control.

The DFDR (Digital Flight Data Recorder) and CVR ( Cockpit Voice Recorder) have water activated pingers (ULB's) that send a signal out but you have to be fairly close to the location to pick up the signal.
Don't know if the Malaysian aircraft had an ELT (emergency locator transmitter) system or not. That would also help locate the aircraft.

True, one of CNN's articles recounted a plane that disappeared over the Atlantic from Rio de Janeiro. Sounded like it took them two years to find the debris in the ocean. About another year to release findings of what occurred. That tragedy purportedly involved inexperienced pilots who reacted wrongly to a minor (according to the article) problem that affected the cruise control.

Thoughts with all involved.

U.S. officials are still sorting out how and where the fraudulent passengers purchased tickets.

Both ticket holders were traveling through China to connect to a flight to Amsterdam. One of the passengers was then due to connect to Frankfurt with the other en route to Stockholm.

Officials currently believe the tickets were paid for in cash, according to one senior law enforcement official.

They will find them. It's a big Ocean, but they will eventually find them. Debris, oil slick, something will pop up. It is a terrible event. The plane will be found.
