Here's the totals for last year-

2,147 Wednesday 2013
3,361 Thursday 2013
10,324 Friday 2013
12,102 Saturday 2013

2014 results for comparison-

513 Wednesday 2014
4,116 Thursday 2014
6,318 Friday 2014
5,278 Saturday 2014

Seems more centrally located. The arena in Toledo would be packed. How far is that for Kent, Akron?

I also think it'd be great if they could move the schedule to Thurs-Sun. More people would be able to make the semis then. Friday is still tough to make for some people.

Toledo would be better. The Q is nice if we get around 10,000 for the championship, but if KSU/Akron/OU aren't there then it really keeps the numbers down. Toledo would be a closer trip for eight schools, longer for four. Still, OU fans will still travel well and KSU/Akron wouldn't be too far away. Buffalo would be the only one screwed by the switch.

Um, we've tried Toledo before. It didn't work. If Western fans won't drive to Cleveland to see their best team in many years, they wouldn't drive to Toledo either. You can blame Cleveland all day, but the reality is that the MAC has crap fan bases for too many teams.

I think Cleveland has been great for the MAC tourney.....as I noted in a separate thread on this subject, I went to the MAC tourney years ago when it was hosted in Savage Arena, and the attendance and atmosphere was really good. But it was on UT's home court.

Also, you can't get too focused on this year's final when for the first time in quite a while we had a Michigan-based MAC team which results in lousy attendance. Most years you are going to have an Arkron, Kent or an OU in the finals which will result in great attendance.

More centrally located? Hogwash. OU is 197 miles from Quicken Loans Arena and there are SIX other MAC schools that are closer. If 7/12 schools are within 200 miles then its not the location that is the problem.

plus, if we move the tournament to a campus to boost attendance the obvious choice would be Athens. The Convo would be packed and has a bigger capacity than Savage. But I'm guessing a few people would object to that.

I may be way off, but from where I sit the politics of the conference leads me to believe officials like the tourney being held in the conference's hometown.

Having said that, as a fan I like it in Cleveland. Toledo would be good too, but the true hometown advantage would be brought up by too many. Detroit would be convenient for me and other CMU, WMU, UT, BGSU, and EMU fans, but where? Cobo Arena? Palace? Meh.

RE: Final MAC Tourney
The MAC office at one time were in the Four Seagate building, in downtown Toledo. Though it has been many years since the move to Cleveland, I still think Toledo and the Huntington Center to be a viable option for the b-ball tournament. A first class and newer venue with enough hotel rooms, bars/restaurants and attractions close by, to be able to handle, and satisfy the fan experience. Everything would be on a smaller scale but set up to handle 8-9000 fans.

Cobo Arena? 04-jawdrop

Cobo Arena doesn't exist any more. It was done away with as part of the renovation of Cobo Hall...

"The 12,000-seat Cobo Arena was attached to Cobo Center, and was renovated for adaptive reuse and reopened as a 40,000 square foot ballroom with pre-function, 21 additional meeting rooms and a 30,000 square-foot three-story glass atrium overlooking the Detroit River in September 2013." Yes. The only basketball they've had is a couple high school games a couple years ago, and the Globetrotters every year.
