RE: POY?
well, as the first non biased poster to chime in....

Napier has his moments, I saw him several games take over and even though he did not play great against SMU both games, I saw the flashes.

In the end though, I gotta go with SK, he was always consistent and I saw him take over a game and/or change the momentum more times than I want to count.

Got to be SK!

Heh, it is razor close. Actually, even though I think they all can do good at the next level, I think Napier has the best game and skills for the NBA, he just looks ready.

However, when you look at this year in college basketball in the AAC, I will go SK, most consistent, most important to his team.

RE: POY?
Napier has the most impressive stat line. Kilpatrick is the best and most consistent scorer. Russ Smith probably has the highest ceiling of any of them. It's a really tough choice. Throw in Joe Jackson and Nick Moore and what conference has better guard play- sheesh!

Napier, out of a team setting, is scary, he is going to be a great NBA player for a very long time, I think he will have the better long term career of any of the other candidates.

However, UConn's team performance hurt him, and some of that is on him. I think SK and Smith were better leaders for their teams and took them to the championship.

I will rank them

SK
Smith
Napier

All, so close, but Napier will have the last laugh, he will be a true NBA star...hopefully the other two will be as well.

I can understand SMU and Ville fans being underwhelmed by Napier.

Not so much the others.

Remember, many people think what have you done for me lately? But rewind just one week: Kirkpatrick against UConn was 4 of 16 with 5 rebounds and 7 turnovers!!

He was equally putrid. Players have bad games. You shouldn't be rewarded because you played Rutgers today while Napier played Louisville. After all, how did Napier do against Rutgers?

The flip side is that Kirkpatrick's performance against UConn is probably coloring my view. Napier has actually been very consistent over the year. UConn also played the best OOC schedule of the AAC teams.

At this point, I'd say Cincy had a better season than most expected, and that's a credit to them, but they are not as impressive to me as Louisville is. I'd put UConn, SMU, Memphis and Cincy in a bag and shake it. These 4 teams are basically even.

Leagues don't like giving awards to outgoing players unless their head and shoulders better than the rest. Russ Smith is a Louisville legend but he plays with great players and hasn't had to carry his team like SK has. Napier may be the best player but when candidates are close you've got to go with one of the champs. Sk all the way.

Great point about Smith not having to carry his team like SK has. AND about going with one of the champs.:bow:SK!

RE: POY?
It's almost like you need a di. SK gets the 1/6 faces, Napier gets the 2/5, and Smith the 3/4. Roll the di.

Can't do a "coin flip" when three are involved 03-lmfao

SK has just been so clutch. And he didn't have much of an offensive team around him much of the time (his supporting cast kind of came and went at times). That made it all the more difficult.

Of course, Smith dealt with a changing team (losing Behanon), and Shabazz basically carried UConn from the beginning.

You can really make a great case for the three of them.

It is kind of funny, since Napier had a dud game at Cincinnati. He was 5-19 2 rebounds and 1 turnover. In the same game sk was 8-15 12 rebounds 6 assists with 4 to. Anyone can cherry pick a bad game. Consequently, Napier is a very good player.

RE: POY?
There are good reasons for each. I agree about SK and Bazz basically "carrying" their teams, but why is it fair to in effect then punish Russ for being on a better team or having better teammates. Doesn't seem right to penalize him. He helped take the team to 2 BET titles, 2 final fours, a NC and now another conference championship. He can do everything -- whatever Pitino ask of him in any game he does. Some nights it is be the big scorer, other nights it's be the distributor, other night he hollers for rebounds and steals and deflections. I know of at least 2 games that Russ was extremely sick yet still came out and played lights out.
