They also were tired of the bad PR of having HS kids come out who never got drafted and because they had signed with agents or simply not even bothered to try to go to college, had basically been excluded form even trying to go to college. They were concerned that it was becoming a trend, and one that would end up destroying young lives by not giving them more realistic expectations to live up to.

I think the PR hit of the purported damage to college basketball and the related hit of the NCAA's ridiculous and counter-productive no agent rule is the heart of the matter.

Put me down as also arguing that the NCAA and each league should jointly certify a group of agents who have a minimum degree of experience and a sufficiently large client base (to stem the guys needing a fast buck) and history of no substantiated ethics issues as OK to hire without losing eligibility even if they enter the draft and choose to return or proceed to college. The soccer guys REALLY need it because so many of the opportunities are overseas and they generally go into those discussions with no clue about the tax issues and real cost of living overseas.

If D league did take all the one and done's, it would have little affect on the NCAA or D-league. People watch college basketball to support there school or state schools not because it happens to be the defacto minor leagues for the NBA. The only difference is that 2-3 dozen players each year would forgo college and since they're not going to commit anyway, let them go. The D-leagues aren't going to suddenly become profitable because of 2-3 dozen more players. The D-league will still be what it currently is; a money losing venue in which the NBA can develop some players. The D-League doesn't get the best non-NBA college players anyway, they mostly go to Europe or Japan and make 10 times the money they'd make in D-league. D-league is for the guy who is not honest with himself and thinks he'll make it in the NBA someday while wasting his most valuable career playing time in a low pay development league.
