Quote:"I know the [Southeastern Conference] coaches are not in favor of changing the recruiting calendar," Kentucky's Mark Stoops said in January. "If things start moving up, it changes the way we've been doing things for a long time."

Yeah, like poaching recruits from smaller programs. Waiting for them to find diamonds in the rough, then swooping in last-minute after someone else has done the footwork. No need to change that. 01-lauramac2

Quote:Peal said the NCAA recently surveyed coaches about an early signing period. Most of the disagreement, she said, involves the actual date.

Options could include a fall date, late-summer or early-summer. No consensus exists.

I also found this interesting. I know several coaches have advocated for an early signing period, mostly because they want to be able to not have to recruit a commit all the way to signing day.

Yep we'd hate for those SEC coaches to actually have to evaluate players and find out which ones are actually good. Instead it's a much better idea for them to recruit only the ones that even us on the message board can tell are great and then fill any last minute holes with recruits of those lower on the foodchain than them.

An early signing date would also favor schools lower on the food chain in another way. Now, even if a school like Virginia or NC State has a commitment from a 4* or 5* player, other potential recruits are likely to be afraid the big dogs will poach them before signing day, and be reluctant to join the little dog's "bandwagon".

I'd like to see an early signing week, or even month, instead of a single day.

This is something we have needed for years. Have an early signing period in early August to allow the kids who are committed and would prefer to enjoy their senior season in peace rather than having to deal with the circus.

Why have signing days at all? If a player wants to sign, why can't he sign any time he wants If he and the school reach an agreement..... he and his parents want to sign and the school wants him to sign, why not let them sign?

I tend to agree with you. IMO if a kid wants to commit to a school, he should be able to sign with them whenever he wants.

The first day of the early signing period will just turn into the new signing day. Coaches will pressure their recruits to commit as early as legally allowed whether it's in February or August.

I've always thought kids should be free to sign at any point after their 18th birthday or day following their last high school game.

Would beat what we have now. Get tired of hearing about them committing to
a different school each week. Doesn't teach them values.
