Be nice to play 9 home and home games(miss one team) rather than potentially missing out on hosting several premier American teams.

Thanks for the update. Makes a lot more sense. 8 home and homes and 2 single games.

yeah, no way we do a 20 game schedule...no matter how much ECU may want it.

Now the conference has to be smart enough to make sure Cincinnati, UConn, SMU, and Memphis all play home and homes with each other.

Right now my tier system for TV and mirror games is this:

Tier 1: UConn, Memphis, SMU, Cincinnati
Tier 2: Houston, Temple, Tulsa,
Tier 3: South Florida, Central Florida, ECU, Tulane

Everyone in their tiers should play mirror games along their geographic rivals. No reason for Cincinnati to play ECU twice if means they don't play Temple or UConn a second time.

Agree with this.

With particular importance that the Tier 1 teams play home-and-home vs. each other. I don't think Anybody could be dumb enough to mess that up.

An 18-game conference schedule was used for the '13-'14 season by the AAC, ACC, A10, Big East, B1G, Big <XII, MAC, MoValley, MTN, PAC12, SEC, and the WCC. No exceptions among those 12 upper- and upper-middle leagues. It is not surprising (yet still, kind of a relief) to learn that the American will use an 18-game schedule next year, too.

I'm actually happy for an 18 game league schedule. Gives us some leeway in our OOC schedule. Also think the non D1s will be a thing of the past. We need to play a lot of teams in SC, VA, and NC every year, it's good for building our brand.

All that hoopla for nothing, when a bunch of peeps kept saying a 20-game schedule wouldn't happen.

Oh, and this is the same guy tweeting who originally said it would be 20 games, and caused the silly stir, in the first place..

20 game conference schedule is too restrictive for OOC games. Glad to see 18 game schedule.

If they pony up more cash, sure. I wouldn't offer them a bucket of warm spit unless they offered to pay extra.

If we still had Dickey as coach I'd be upset with this news knowing that he typically schedules cupcake OOC slates. But now I'm excited to see what Coach Sampson puts together.

ESPN will assure that.

Here's an example of what they could do geographically to eliminate some of the longest trips and preserve most of the exciting TV match ups.

UConn plays Houston and Tulane once
Temple plays SMU and Houston once
East Carolina plays Tulsa and SMU once
Cincy plays USF and Tulsa once
Memphis plays UCF and USF once
Tulane plays UConn and UCF once
Houston plays Temple and UConn once
SMU plays East Carolina and Temple once
Tulsa plays Cincy and East Carolina once
USF plays Memphis and Cincy once
UCF plays Tulane and Memphis once

If the top 7 teams are UConn, Memphis, Cincy, SMU, Temple, Houston and Tulsa, 17 of a possible 21 marquee home and homes are preserved. The four single game series: Houston-Temple, SMU-Temple, Tulsa-Cincy and Houston-UConn.

I like that thinking....if ESPN "NOW" wants more marquee match-ups with the AAC, ESPN can easily throw more $$$ to the conf to get them.
