GameDay: @ Toledo
Mea culpa, I learned, the hard way, not to start a game thread too early (maybe I should have started this one at 1:50 p.m. today 03-lmfao).

Toledo is a 5 1/2 point favorite in a game which actually has little meaning, I think.

I assume both teams are 'baked in' to their tourney seedings according to the one informative post in the other thread.

We'll know how Ohio did by time our game starts.

That said, I'm not sure there is much difference in the #5 and #6 seeds.

Matter of fact, the #1 and 2 seeds are basically identical. Ditto 3 and 4. Ditto 5 and 6. Ditto 7 and 8.

As everyone knows, the #1 and 2 seeds get two byes. The #3 and 4 seeds get one bye. So the big advantage is being the #2 seed vs. being the #3. And being the #4 vs. being the #5.

This year's MAC doesn't have a top 40 team everyone is trying to avoid until the finals.

RE: GameDay: @ Toledo
I don't know which team will be more motivated, but I don't have a good feeling about this game. We blew Toledo out last time, and it's hard to beat good teams twice (especially going to their building). If Ohio wins at noon, we will literally have nothing substantive to play for, as we will be locked in the 6th seed.

If Murphy juggles lineups and doesn't run Talley into the ground, I won't be mad. We have a potential marathon of a week coming up.

Agree, 100%. The 'dream scenario' is that we play 6 (!) games in 8 days and that is awful for basketball.

Any teams seeded 5 - 12 making the semi-finals will be 'dead dogs' (or dead something).

If I were Murphy I'd play a lot of players (as he did Senior Night - Senior Night was tailor made for starting different players than would otherwise start).

I can see a lot of key players getting less than 20 minutes today.

I can see Strickland, Ajayi, Sims, etc. getting 2 x as many minutes as usual.

Maybe some minutes for Ross.

BTW, if I'm following the main MAC board correctly, WMU has clinched the #1 seed based on division record tie-breaker.

The big motivation for Toledo is to be MAC Co-Champs (you know, two teams both sticking their index finger in the air).

Miami with a 1 point lead on Ohio early in the 2nd half. Good game to watch if you're waiting for the EMU game to start. Miami's stream is easily the best in the MAC.

It is also a televised game. I'm getting the Time Warner Cable game on ESPN's Full Court (on DirecTV).

Miami is on a big, big run.

Ohio must be really banged up. Where is N'Dour? Or Stevie Taylor? Haven't seen either guy in the 2nd half. (EDIT: Nevermind, both are in now)

Miami isn't a team I want to see in the tourney. I don't know how they can play 4 guards and one 6'7 guy, but they do and are a solid team.

BTW, Ohio is resting Ndour (back?) who only has one point so far.

I think a lot of teams realize that next week is what it is all about... (esp. teams ranked 5 - 12 who play Monday).

Could be us next year, re: 4 guards and one big guy, whoever that big guy might be?

Except their 4 guards are 6'3 and shorter.

We'll have Talley (5'11), Combs (6'2) Lee (6'3), Ward (6'7), Price (6'8), and Ajayi (6'10), plus any other JUCO guys we end up signing. Not as big as we are this year, but not exactly "small ball" either.

N'dour is hurt (back) and was essentially held out until 'crunch time' at which time he showed GB III what a huge effort off the bench could be.

As for next year, we are fortunate to be returning three double digit scorers. Only other team that can say that is BGSU. We have some tough losses, but so does everyone else. Some notable seniors...

Shane Whittington, David Brown
Javon McCrea, Josh Freelove, Jared Oldham
Rian Pearson
Will Felder, Quinten Rollins
Tree Treadwell, Quincy Diggs
Nick Kellogg, TJ Hall
Majok Majok, Jesse Berry, Chris Bond

...I could go on and on. Several names I didn't even mention. We will be in decent shape next year.

No doubt the reason the MAC is so balanced this year is the talented seniors on most teams.

This year is a deep, deep MAC. Next year, "not so much"...

Ugh Miami can't buy a free throw, and now it goes to OT.

Looks like it's safe to say Ohio will come away with the win. We are locked into the 6 seed.

Hot start from 3 for us. Only up 2, but we weathered a mini run from the Rockets. Darell Combs looks locked in.

Nice shooting between the arc. Riley has some nice baskets. One a tap and the other a "bomb".

We are playing a bit too fast right now. Can't get into a "pick-up game" with Toledo. That's what they want us to do.

I hope Bryant isn't too hurt. Not sure if I'd put him back in even if he's ok. Dumb to risk it.
