Probably not, since he is still coaching a Top 15 team, is in first place in the AAC, went to a FF two years ago and has another bright, shiny National Championship ring on his finger.

So the knock on JP was he couldn't win Top 25 games. Now he has done that better than some very good coaches who have coached for 15-40 years. and now the knock against JP is no final fours and championship rings?

This is getting out of hand.

Memphis is a great program. We're in a conference that has us on TV every game. This year has been amazing since we moved to this conference. The whole world sees us now and knows our name. They know our players names. Even the Cal years didn't garner this much attention.

Seize the moment. Remember Seton Hall when they were good. They had their opportunity and blew it. I don't want us to blow it. Does anyone have any idea where Seton Hall even is right now.

I know that's extreme but this guy is a cartoon. I can't imagine how much the people behind the scenes make fun of Josh on ESPN, CBS, whatever.

One of our joke fans think that we didn't get attention when Cal was our coach; then compounds with the behind the scenes nonsense. People would make fun of the school for sure if they fired Pastner after improving the team every single year; getting into the tournament 4 years in a row, and having us ranked 3 years in a row.

Unlike Vegas; I'm not imagining that.

Another day at the beach for Saluki...

Cal + Pitino
3-9 versus the top 25

Pastner
4-4 versus the top 25

Therefore; Pastner sucks.

According to some of our genius "fans" Pastner should win "most of his games" against the top 25. According to some of our genius "fans" a good coach should be able to make adjustments and beat any team.

Pastner is of course 4-4 against the top 25 and has a shot at being 5-4 by tomorrow afternoon.

Back to selling snake oil again I see. You're the best Cherry picker I've ever seen. Cal's team sucks.

You went on a rampade for a month telling us how overrated Louisville was before the season started. That is the only team we've beaten of the four teams ahead of us in our conference. 2-5 I believe it is.

Why do you care if somebody thinks our coach can't coach. That's an opinion and not a debate. You think he can......super! I think he can't......super!

Debate the topic, not the person. Remember?

Cherry picker? Aren't you the "fan" who said that we got lucky against Louisville because Dixon pulled a rabbit out of his a$$?

Thank you! Yeah I think Dixon went beastmode and saved dimples ass. I'll take it a step further. Weren't you the (oops I can't say idiot), that said we should lock Josh up for LIFE!!!!!!! so we can now be stuck with his ridiculous contract and can't get rid of him?

That's really all this is about. Stutters can't admit he was wrong so he has to manufacture ridiculous statistics that somehow equate loser with Billy Donavan, Tom Izzo, Rick Patino, John Calipari, Fk! John Fkn Wooden probalby, with Dope and his cue cards.

I think one of our fans just completely lost all his marbles and called Pastner a loser and a dope.

This is the same tired act of pointing at someone else to say "see so and so lost...look at them."

Very predictable. Every time a name team loses, I know that someone will make a post about that team losing and sarcastically surmising "I guess so and so can't coach."

Maybe someone can instead dig up the early record of some big name coach to "prove" some silly argument.

I mentioned watching "Men of March" in other thread about Billy Donovan, and him describing his first 5 years on the job starting at the age of 30 that reminded me much of Pastner. I think he would have been fired by Memphis fans after his first two 30-40% seasons at FL.

It is just silly to make these comparisons. Billy did well at Marshall then took over a struggling UF school when the SEC was legit.

Chris Lowery took SIU to three straight NCAAs in his 1st three years. His third year he took SIU (at age 34) to the S16.

Does this "prove" Lowery was a better coach than Pastner or Donovan? Of course not, just like throwing out the nonsense T25 records.

People like to overly complain- it is a shame that it far too often is nasty and personal and mocking as opposed to genuine second guessing and game discussion.

With that- the team is likely one to two game short of what most expected- they are 22-8 instead of 23-7 or 24-6. Win the next four and Memphis comes out of the AAC tourney likely where most predicted overall- come up short and they fell one game short.

Win 2 games in the NCAA tourney and no one cares.

Enjoy this morning's game. Big farewell to some important Seniors. Big game too- SMU has had a good season. Hopefully the fan persona is- you guys beat us up in the second half down there so today we get revenge as opposed to gee Wally our kids lost to Cincy so waaaaaah!

The point of the whole thread was to answer our loser posters that say...

- A great coach should be able to win no matter what
- A great coach should be able to win most of his games against the top 25

In that regard, it served its purpose more than adequately. Chris Lowery and Billy Donovan are actually great examples. Lowery made it to the Sweet 16 and should have been able to parlay that run the same way that Stan Heath and Bruce Pearl did, but he stayed put and completely flamed out.

As great as Billy Donovan has been; he went through 2 bad periods. From 2001 - 2005, a period of 6 years; Donovan didn't make it past the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament. Of course before that he played in the title game, so obviously he was already a great coach. In the 3 years after Florida won its back to back titles; Donovan missed the tournament the first 2 years, and lost in the 1st round the third year.

I know it is from Wikipedia, so take it for what it is; but check out this quote...

Quote:While successful during the regular season, Donovan's Florida squads from 2001 to 2005 consistently underperformed in the NCAA tournament, losing to lower-seeded teams in the first or second round every year despite rosters stocked with many highly recruited players. Still in his 30s, some commentators speculated that Donovan was an excellent recruiter who was unable to make in-game adjustments or develop talented players once they were on the UF campus

How familiar does that sound? In 2004, Florida was ranked #2 to start the season; lost 11 games, barely made it into the tournament, and lost in the 1st round.

In any event; the thread more than served its purpose.

I get what you are saying, the problem is that that does not necessarily translate to JP or any other coach. For every one Billy Donovan there are hundreds of others failures. I am not ready to fire JP after this year. I think we have made steps in the right direction again. IMO, next year will really be the determining year.
