10 years without a tournament appearance is more than a dry spell, but the conference move might be just the thing to spark a revival.

There was a area disconnect between our coaches and the high school players for a bunch of years. I don't know what caused it or why it was allowed to continue. NJ produces D1 lacrosse players at a rate equal to football and basketball. We should be a lax power. Maybe now we can keep some of these kids home and rebuild our program.

Lax recruiting is tricky because the best players also tend to have the ability to pick the best schools and the best programs. Coaches have to sell the university's academics as well as the lacrosse program because few lax players have any desire to try for major league lacrosse. Instead they go into banking, consulting, and other lucrative careers where the quality of their undergrad university starts to matter. Rutgers is obviously a solid university but, like Maryland, they're competing with some elite universities that also have elite lacrosse programs. That's a hard mountain to climb.
